's gonna have to be running 24 / 7 though to justify the consumption  ... believe me RDCO look at that sort o' s**t VERY closely ... they'll have std figures for all the " stated uses ''' and the stated usage, along with your order quantity, will be on the RDCO returns from the supplier - monthly
and if you're ordering in, in less than 500 gallons/2300 litres at a time, you'll be flagging your self up claiming the 5% VAT on it too

What a clusterfuck. Instead of clarifying the rules on red they have muddied the water further.

The usual ***** who run tractors towing diggers will be claiming that their digger is doing 'agricultural' work too.

The problem is, according to the letter of the law (I think) the ag exemption only applies to the actual farmer on his own land. So ag contractors should technically be on white. That's as I recall it.

to say now't of the ones hauling everything else with their traccies ... several round here have sold their stock trucks and bought big f*** off stock trailers for transporting their live stock around ... most are doing 30-40 miles ea. way in 'em to markets and abattoirs ..... then there's them hauling spuds, etc. in excess of 20-30 miles ...... I could go on ..... if they'm out the field, out of their 'radius' and working 'em 'outside' their industry sector they should be nicked running on red and the kit confiscated ..... would make a lot of 'em think twice, risking the loss of their expensive chariots

im guessing by the time 2 years goes by all the big construction firms will have made phonecalls and it will be quietly dropped.

I doubt it in this climate - they were digging up the bloody roundabouts here in France and they stuck to their guns - best the industry could do was to get them to string it out.

Just reading the budget summary on the BBC. Saw this: Firms eligible for small business rates relief will get £3,000 cash grant. I have a beach hut which are liable for business rates (I know, don't ask me why, I have no idea), but we then get rate relief. Where should I go for my £3000 in cash? New £20s will be fine.

dunno, but worth pursuing
see also a rate holiday on premises with up to 50 odd K liabilities for a year ... fat lot of good that'll do, if you then have to find it a year later .... that'd make a dent in the cash flow in Y2 :oops:

See agri use includes forestry just as well being that every bit of biomass fuel relies on a big old chipper running on red. This is the worst bit about the whole carbon zero crap behind the scenes it's all still heavily reliant on fossil fuels.

I couldn't care less if they banned red all together. It would only affect the farmers/dodgy people and the big boys. All of which are in a better position to adjust than the average Joe.
Don't agree with ya there
Start in the Quarry there costs will obviously rise so everything coming out the gate will rise in price aggregates, bricks, blocks, concrete products, tarmac the list goes on it may only be pence per ton but there are lots of tons,
Inflation will be rife as these costs will hit infrastructure and housing things that affect us all
Then every man and his dog will feel they have the right to fill the van from site thefts of fuel will become more prevalent than now and its bad enough as it is

Just my opinion but it will cost us all

I agree, it doesn't seem to have been very well thought through. There are going to be a lot of price rises.
As you say theft is going to be even worse than it is now. I always worry after I've filled my yard tank that someone will have followed the tanker round seeing where he delivers. Luckily I've been okay so far, but no way will I risk 2500l of white sat there in a plastic tank.

at one time Ollie, had a contract with the local bus company (Red & White) servicing, maintaining, cleaning and fueling the Abergavenny and Brecon fleets (16 service buses) ...
my old workshop was originally the bus depot workshops and had three commercial pits in it ...

.... had 5 fitters on staff, which complimented me crane hire biz nicely .... :giggle::cool:
was very nice while it lasted ('bout ten years) ... eventually saw the writing on the wall for them and impounded their buses, 'til they settled up, to date ..
then kicked 'em out when the cheque cleared ... literally, parked all their buses, in all the bus bays outside my yard and told 'em to come get the buggers ..... and bring some tow bars for the ones without the engines in 'em, which were on pallets behind them 😂 😂

with such a large quantity of DERV on site we also sold a hell of a lot to anyone who came in and we had a huge customer base ... were always the cheapest retailer in the county, shifting so much of it, which in turn attracted the huge customer base .. self perpetuating operation, 'til Safeways opened a superstore on the edge of town and subsidised their fuel sales to get their foot fall ... Shell wouldn't / couldn't compete and that was the end of a very lucrative 'sideline':cry:

aye and well over 5000 ltrs a week of red .... kept a 1200 gallon tank full for the cranes and FLTs ... a busy week and we'd have two refills in a week between the cranes drinking it and selling it to all and sundry

That is a beautiful old rangie :)
aye ..... bitterly regret selling it ...... chassis no 964, 1970 on a J plate .. one previous owner ... an aircraft engineer who was fanatical about it .... had two lever arch files of history with it and a box full of receipts for petrol    ..... he kept everything to do with it ... and a meticulous log of every thing ever done to it, as though it was an aircraft maintenance log.
IIRC it was about1900 quid and change when he bought it..had the original receipt ...
came from Branksome .. a customer of mine put me on to it ... his Uncle's, who had died and it was in bits, when I collected it .. put it back together and used it for a couple of years ... drove like a new one ..
when they came out, any Giles that bought one, after a SII must've thought they'd died and gone to heaven :giggle::giggle:
