Bucket Repairs

Hi All

We have a ditching bucket for a JS160 that has been used as a breaker?

The bucket itself is good apart from the usual bottom which needs a reweld.

Anybody recommend? I suppose its usually local guys? never had a bucket repaired before

been trying to change the cutting edge on my grader fair play to geith whoever welded it on did a good job.spent hours with the grinder and plasma cutter and still cant get it off looks like nothing holding it on but cant even pull it off with the machine,wish ide of sent it off to someone now

Where are you Ross?
Sounds like a case of cutting the arse out and welding in a new section and a decent cutting edge, not a big job can be time consuming at times though

be lucky to get an edge off with a plasma Mart ..... gas axe job ..... wanna be a BIG plasma to blow through the thicknesses involved ..... used to do a lot of buckets

Aye, no such thing as a quick bucket repair only a good one ....... or a bad one in the wrong hands ....... you need a recommendation Ross ..

need one of these .....

or a set of these ..... to do a decent job

It’s doable probs looking at spending 4-5 hours labour and the cost of the material.

I’ve re-skinned far worse

not a difficult one Ross ..... someone's rubbed the back out of it, 'grading' .... bolt on edge, so'll come off real easy and either bolt a new one on or weld it on - cheaper option .... the bottom's easy enough, but'll need the facility to either roll or multi bend the radius into the back as it comes around
a suitably equipped fab shop'd do it in a reasonable time at a relatively modest cost .... compared to a replacement, even a decent s/hand one

want their arse kicked, whoever did that to it

Yes, it’s for a js160 so I’m sure a new one will be about a grand, not sure if just to advertise as is or tidy the bucket up

out it as it is Ross ... let someone else deal with the problem ... or replace it ....... or advertise it without and 'could always chuck it in' as a goodwill gesture

I think i will do these, it has a decent loading bucket with it so thats a start.

How do op's get away with it? is it seen as good driving as it saved loading a pecker up or what?

Sealing up heaps, back of the bucket on stone its a wear part at the end of the day and will wear out
Probably be about £400/500 for a new skin i would of thought.

Last batch of cat 320’s we got I got our welder to weld on three 15mm x 100mm hardox 450 straps across them saves this from happening.

Probably be about £400/500 for a new skin i would of thought.

have to disagree about it being a wear part Danny ... it's the body of the bucket ... as Mark said ... a few wear strips welded on additionally would be wear parts the cutting edge is there for ground contact, whether it's the leading edge or the flat face underneath ... the body is for load carrying/containment

The straps strength the bucket as well stops them bashing the bottom up.

Some before and after’s of a bucket repair we had done the other year sent it away to MST to be overhauled, they build a good strong bucket . Quarrying rock is very abrasive, buckets off a 55 ton Cat 345.

incidental wear and tear is inevitable Mog , but the addition of wear strips'll maintain the bucket body far better than none .. and yes i've always known them as sacrificial wear strips .... usually stitched on, to aid removal / replacement ultimately . ...... used to do a lot of 'em
the back of the bucket is still the body though ... wear parts are usually more easily replaced

now that is a repair ..... ...... some work gone into that ..... and would not want the bill for it either

Was in the region of 8 or so grand should last another good 4 or 5 years now though. Was originally build in 2007 and last 2 machines with some repairs and addition of wear straps.
