All the best looking housing predates planning permission even existing. I'm not saying let's have a free for all but is it really in the interests of society to have (un)productive educated people debating the merits of someone's gates.

It's more about didn't ask them first I have never understood planning what ever you suggest they want different and the times I have had planning and building control say I thing and conservation officer wanting something different

Amazing that you can go down the Cardiff coast road and there are pillars with big statues on the top way over height and nothing said!

I hate the idea of planning permission. Why should anyone be able to tell you what to do with your land. But equally I understand there are far to many people on our little island. Especially greedy idiots, to go without it.
You also have to remember that it is a council job, therefore it is generally going to end up by those who are unemployable in the real world.

I'd be replacing the gates with the ugliest, rustiest, graffitied industrial set I could find/build - then wait until I was asked to put the 'nice' gates back.
