Whilst nothing like a transformer. Especially something like an old oil cooled unit, they aren't as bad as their reputation. Especially for occasional use. I seem to remember the early ones had a reputation for lasting 2 years no matter how little they where used.

don't get me wrong - I've now't against the inverters - my little Esab caddy is at least twenty years old and has done a lot of welding here in the last 15 ... Phil's Warrior 250A only comes out occasionally if the job warrants it and it's a nice set .. I've a 200A Esab here that I kept from work - 3ph though and that's in a different league - was 'the set' in its day for ally work and puts down beautiful beads on steel

I don't think there is many in that price range with 2 feed rollers. At least not in the little compact machines. As said they are on the pricier end of Chinese but you are paying for the service. If you just want a Chinese mig then these get reasonable reviews.

Also that r tech is a synergetic one and supposedly quite a tricked up one at that. They only do the 180amp one as a normal mig now.

It is but it's not really comparable. The r tech has a computer so you just enter the material thickness and it adjusts all the settings for you. A machine like that in a briefcase size will be mega money from the mainstream brands. Its a question of do you want features from r tech or quality from warrior.
The r tech is also set for using 0.6mm wire which I'm not sure on the warrior and is pre wired for a spool gun for welding aluminum.
The warrior is better value than r tech for the smaller machine from a quick glance but doesn't show minimum amps and again says no 0.6mm option.
I would have to ask druid how much these things actually matter in the real world.

The synergic really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s a gimmick for beginners imho. No substitute for experience.

I have a set of 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 & 1.2 rollers for my Warrior 250 ... only thing I've not tried it on is 1.2, but think it'd cope - it puts it out alright

not only is it 4 roller all are driven, with shared tensioning -- gives a lovely smooth feed
will drive a 5m torch no probs ...
and is on a nice sturdy, stable base trolley ... pulls about sweet ... I leave the gas bottle parked at the power socket and run a long gas line with the power lead - no point in dragging 70kgs of bottle about (which this isn't set up for anyway)
light enough to pick up and lift into a vehicle - with or without 15k,s of wire

Why does it need to be steel? Use a 200mm sq timber?
