Fella I follow on Facebook has got his hands on the motherload of unused CAT classic machines…. How I’ve no idea, looks like they are ex Barbrak Ltd (going off id in the photos)
Anyone know more details?

Where are Barbrak based? Never heard of that one before. The paint looks more like current paint than the old highway yellow they’d have been painted from new. Might be the pictures.

Would appear they where a business in the 80's which would fit the time period of the machines, but had previous insolvency issues prior to there winding up in the 2010's.
To me, I'm very very sceptical..... Liquidator hide and seek is playable but i'm not sure why you would do so with machines from the 80's that have seemingly had 40 years of dry storage costs? - Even then I've not seen machines in this country stored and come out looking "new".
The shovel looks extremely genuine.... but I can't make my mind up on the 977, Chains look to be free which would be a miracle IMHO with standing that length of time and only doing 75hrs
It'll all come out in the wash i'm sure.

Rory did his homework on the subject and it’s pretty much what I found, definitely a story behind it! Some court cases on the Google’s which I couldn’t be bothered to read through as well.

Definitely a hide and ‘oh look what I’ve found down the bottom of my garden’ type job!
Chuck them in a decent dry shed, smother in thick oil and I’m sure they will come out like this?
The Hi res pics look genuine to me, I’m pretty good at spotting a paint job!

Have a look at the 977 gear selector and the overspray I could be wrong but I thought cat where meticulous and I would of thought the plastic bits went on after the paint job?

Why would you keep a machine that long without using it? If they went bust in 2010 that’s still minimum twenty years they’ve sat on them prior to that.

Possible but must have been some serious book fiddling prior to pop...they aren't exactly things to slip down yours pants and saunter out with .

To be fair you get tractors like this pop up from time to time that someone bought with the sole intention of putting in a shed. The owner might have been a really dedicated plant man. Or tucked them away at the first sign of trouble.

To be stored dry and come out looking like that you'd expect the tyres on the shovel to have suffered and dried out at least.

Is it because someone’s got an older fleet than you ? My cat gear will have the same amount of hours in 40 years tbf

Considerably pricier than a tractor though.

If you tucked them away at the very first sign of trouble, then you are guaranteeing your downfall- nothing to earn with. And thta must have been very soon after they were bought- so would expect finance company to be all over it.

Companies do it often enough now though, have various shell companies owning the plant one company goes busy but magically the same kit has a different sticker on it the next day. Browns tippers hid all there stuff on the side of the runway at Heathrow airport as they knew that it would take to long for the ballifs to get the relevant airside passes to go and get it. By which time they had moved them again.
People do so strange things in this world.

Not looked at the originals on Facebook, but if there’s overspray it’s not factory paint. The 950 with no cab is shouting “hidden in a container” and somewhere along the way the cab got lost.
