Right ...ref the online auction debate we've had before.
Just been chatting to a lad who used to work at a certain well known local auction that was great for it's Saturday morning sales. Had some great deals in the past.
I moaned about the online thing...
He said since they went online the ex council buses that normally went for 2k are now getting 7k....

it's the extra last 10 minutes each time a bid is placed pisses me off though
bang yer max on and sit back watching some tit jack it a tenner at a time every 9 minutes ...
like I said - God knows when that one finished ????

fed up of watching the above ... this extra 10 min.s every time there's a bid is a PITFA.... put 2990 on it (a third / quarter of what it's realistically worth, s/h ) and some numpty keeps climbing at a tenner a pop ... up to £2330 ATM ... should've finished ages ago ... given up - go do summat

Same with most auctions now a days absolute PITA, and if you put your max bid on, I've heard rumours of auctioneers running it up to just over that point, then you get a message saying your the underbidder, would you like to buy it at the last bid you made as the winner backed out, allegedly.

At an in person auction, there was a truck entered with a reserve, the auctioneer started on it, a low start but seemed to be getting bids, it finished below the reserve, and he announced he couldn't sell it for that, the seller wanted rid so said let it go, people close to the front heard the auctioneer say he had no one on it

seen it happen regularly at Merfa auctions ... got to the point where there'd maybe be only 5 or 6 ppl stood about the ring .. knew most ppl that went .. used to be a regular haunt on a Thursday evening ... have been stood around with everyone looking at each other in disbelief as the auctioneer is taking 'bids' out the air and none of us are bidding - long before internet auctions .

Old man bought a cracking BX Citroen there one night - knocked down to him - went to pay and the bloke at the window says he can't possibly have it for the closing bid - old man said is was knocked down to him - end of - guy says he'd have to pay another 400 quid -- only time I have ever seen my old man pull his warrant card in civvies.

he paid hammer price - was a good car too -

then claim absolute bottom dollar was best bid, 'buy' it themselves, then take the profits

Ppl eventually stopped going and they went bust
