Someone somewhere knows what that's actually chipped 😖
so what should it be worth then???

this " Ends from: Sep 29, 2022 10:00 AM BST " extending the bidding for ten minutes, each time there is a bid, should be stopped ... wouldn't happen at a live auction ... utter bollocks ... auctioneers do not stand around waiting ten minutes in case someone fancies another go  :mad::mad::mad:

it is so ****ing annoying .... doesn't happen live - or ebay ...
they're just driven by greed to max the commission/buyer's premium ... an auction's an auction .. highest bidder at the fall of the hammer - which should be at the end of the auctions duration - end of - not a dozen odd ten minute extensions later :mad::mad:

Gateway Auctions have this in their defence

A realistic sale experience

We understand how frustrating it can be when you’re the high bidder of the asset you’ve had your eye on for two weeks and then you’re pipped at the post by another buyer within seconds of the end time.

In a live auction, we’d carry on taking bids regardless of a deadline and the gavel would only drop once we were happy no more bids were going to come in. That’s the thinking behind our system. Just because our auctions are no longer live, it doesn’t mean we can’t uphold the same standards.

Time extensions, however long they may last, make perfect sense for everyone – giving the best chance for both buyer and seller to be satisfied with a sale.

Bear in mind there's specific software out there for last second bidding...whole online auction things a bit murky still tho imo

But surely you can see not everyone has high speed internet, even now. Everyone should get a chance to up their bid. And if you think it's worth more do you not just bid more at the start so you're not outbid.
It's a bit like saying to people you're bidding against at a live onsite auction "stop bidding now, it's at a price I'm willing to pay"
😜

don't get me started on that one ......
if someone is interested in bidding, they turn up at a live auction, or leave a commission bid ---- or watch an on line one up to the end time ....
ten minutes on each bid is a ludicrous amount ..... as said, put yer best figure on to start ... you know when it's scheduled to finish .. if you get it you get it, if you don't, bid more next time - simples
at a live auction you set your limit on how you value an item and bid to that ... if you're outbid, so be it

Your still imagining everyones sat there clicking away... there not ..the big players will have software doing it...that does it in smallest increment allowed at last second. Can't see there any different to eBay which has loads of bidding platforms . It's just not cricket.cant beat real life tyre kicking auctions

so I repeat ... put yer best figure on it and let the auction's software do it .... wouldn't need the bloody extensions then

and you're right .... can't beat being there and watching folk get the bidding fever, paying more than new, for total, utter sh1t ... or watching the farmers trying to desperately out bid each other for crap they neither need or want :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
it's a dying sport

the cursory glance and that s**t s**t keep walking feeling all the time trying not to glance at the piece of gold youve just spotted.😍
Then as the auctioneer gets closer that nonchalant oh if no one else's is bothered I'll have it.😉 Bang that smug feeling afterwards is good.

I do miss our local collective auction being live. As an antisocial hermit I don’t miss the people that much, but I do miss the live bidding, nabbing a bargain etc.
It’s been online now for a couple of years, obviously forced that way by convid , but it’s here to stay now. We get on well with the auctioneer, I’ve asked him if it will go live again, to put it bluntly he doesn’t want the hassle! I think he misses the buzz of the live day, but the agro involved vs running the online auction is just not worth it. Not to mention figures are up big time! His regular vendors would be pissed if he stopped the online, they are making more money and therefore so is he. Absolutely no incentive to return to live auctions.

It’s now very hard to get a bargain, although I managed it I think in the last one, but also very easy to get caught out buying something you should have left alone! I did that in the last one too🤦‍♂️
The ten minute thing at the end is frustrating, I can understand why it’s there, but when you see an item your winning get a bid again in the last minute, adding another ten, it’s annoying! But again, I bet it boosts profits, so it’s also here to stay.

interesting lot .... one of which is a fireproof document jobby BTLs .... very cheap ATM ... Mog could have one for his wallet and Giles could do with a couple for his battery collection ... will be the new currency shortly :ROFLMAO:
when it bites we'll all be keeping our hand tools in 'em :(
used to keep all our hand tools in a concrete block store room, concrete roof and 4t of concrete test weight blocks for a door ..... was a bugger if the 4t Hyster didn't wanna start on a real cold morning

was a time you couldn't find a cheap one ..... and also a time you couldn't give 'em away if they were in an awkward spot to get out :giggle:
