Not big plant, but seen plenty of wacker plates and stihl saws making good money with online bids but in person they were missing plugs, plates cracked etc but photographed sneakily to miss those bits.
Absolutely...that's why I can't hack auctions now .
Some of the utter shite I've seen at the old f2f ones scares the heck out of me...a picture can hide a missing rocker cover for instance 😆 or hole in side of the block FFS .
Conversely I can't see the little gems ...and the old "take a deep breath move on dint look interested feeling" and that feeling of almost guilt when you carry an utter steal out to the trailer 🫢🫢

I’ve an entire 12x6 trailer sat at yard with 40 odd lots going back into same auction house that bought blind and either don’t work or aren’t worth fixing
Yeah I feel a little better now!. It’s taken me years to clear the tat from our workshop and stores that I bought cheap or at auction. Good job I’m too far away from most of them.

I bought 3 scrap looking metal 5 bar gates at a farm sale, 5 quid for the lot, my mate looks at me like I'm mad. Still got them all, regularly used to make temporary log/animal pens, instant shelves for ibc plastics etc, all had a coat of black paint and I'd expect 25 quid a piece for them easily if I put them back into a sale 👍

Another farm sale I bought a Penman trailer, very tidy, £350. Massive queue for loading, someone comes up to me 'did you win the penman?' Yes mate 'how much would you take for it?'
Ended up selling it for 600 quid, never even touched it 👍 👍

This is like your mate telling you about all the times he’s won the lottery, not mentioning how many tickets he’s bought in the past :)

Forgot about this one- biggest farm sale round here in my lifetime, I was working away. My Dad and my mate were there, mate sent me pictures of what I might be after, I gave him my max bid. Won another tipping trailer, with what he described as 'a bit of scrap in', £150. Out of that scrap I've built cage sides for a tipping trailer, yard scraper, auger mount for my skidsteer and the frame for an 8x4x5ft chip box for my tipper!! Then I sold the trailer for 300 quid 👍 👍

I've had my share of loses that's for sure, just not at auctions...I'm normally at sales for the odds and sods/day out, when you're only spending a couple of hundred quid it's relatively easy to come out ahead, but I've never wanted to chance it on stuff in the £1000s.

Spent a couple hours fetching this one back. It’s been washed out and cleaned inside the bund and tank by previous owner. He’s even got all the new stickers for it he gave me. I just need to decide on a nice colour for it now. Shall be using it for the odd job to move fuel about. I occasionally get asked by fuel companies to go and pump out an oil tank full of diesel (or vice versa) and usually I’m offered the fuel for free as a bonus. Up till now I’ve declined as I’m not enough of a Pikey to use IBCs. This will weight 2860 full up so will sit nicely inside the GH1054BT and just be legal.
