Another 3cx query

Evening all

been inspired by the 3cx threads on the forum to get my old one up and running with a view to restoring it to some sort of standard.

she looks a bit tatty but a lot of it is just green moss etc, ca has one tiny bit of rust in it but the rest is solid

engine fires up perfect and runs fine the only prob is the drive is weak. That’s largely why we stopped using it regularly; there’s some sort of leak on the shuttle box I think as when you engage fwd/rev it takes forever to get moving. It’s better going backwards than forwards. Anyone know where to start looking? also what type of oil should it have in there?

the drive is manual gear selector on the right of steering wheel with fed/rev selector on the left

Check transmission pressure (assuming light doesn't work), if light works and goes out as it should then, you could check forward pack pressure before removing box and either replacing seals or worse case seals and disks + charge pump is a good idea whilst you're at it.

second that .... clutch packs'd be my guess, as said
is that an 'A' reg? looks identical to my '87 on a D plate .. non turbo perky??

Thats an earlier black cab from about 85 it has the slightly differrent boxier extending dipper housing on it, i think you have the borg warner shuttle which uses 10w oil in it, i had one several years ago mine was a 1986 2wd

yep non turbo Perkins- bled some fuel through and she started straight away. Cleaned the gauze out below the filler, was clogged up solid.

Never ceases to amaze me how much muck you can move with a a 2ft bucket on a Jake (spend most my time on a 1.5 tonner). Great machine even if she is getting on a bit

Grew up on a 3CII which we sold - think it went to a breaker even though it was still ready to work, that’s why I want to restore the 3CX cos don’t want to see it meet the gas axe.

on an A plate it'd be '83/'84 ...
as said chunkier extra dig than mine ...
had to mod the tip to get a quicky to fit on mine, so that'd need some surgery on the boom tip, being such a chunk
great tool and never gotten it stuck yet, 2WD or not
