Advice needed please.

I am new to tractors and just purchased a small yanmar for general work around my paddock.

I am after some advice on what sort of chain, rope or strops do people to use for pulling out some dead trees around my lake that have fallen in. Can you recommend a product and also where is the best place to attach it to the tractor front or back?

Anything strong enough will do. If you've a lot to do then a chain with a forestry type choker is quickest and easiest to use. For lots in a lake, I'd use a winch tbh.

If using a strop then attach it to the tractor drawbar.

Depends how long the pull is too. Lots of chain although strong is heavy and expensive. I've pulled plenty out with decommissioned 13mm climbers rope if you know any tree surgeons. Surprisingly strong and will be ok with a small compact but abrasion will wear it quick if pulling over trees/banks etc

The back assuming the tyres are on the 'normal' way.

Always, ALWAYS attach below the mid-line of the axle or it WILL flip over backwards.

Personally I like chain because it doesn't whip if it breaks - but it's not perfect - It's heavy, It holds a lot of mud and it's very cold in winter.

This is the sort of thing I’m thinking 10m in length. Grade 80 chain. Just not sure how I would attach it to the rear of the tractor.

As gecko said above low on the tractor end to stop the front coming up- some homebrew weight on the front will aide traction too. I wouldnt go yanking either. A slow steady pull is safer all round.

I've got a 'two tongue' drawbar on mine, so it's obvious you just slide the ring in and drop a pin through.
I'm guessing you have no draw/towbar?

Assuming it has a tow bar I’m guessing you would just loop the loop ring int previous pic over it and put some tension on and it then can’t slip off.

Yeah. Drawbar point would be best place to attach- if it doesn't have one is there somewhere in its place you could fit a shackle. If using rope you can tie a bowline in the rope and attach to shackle. Or straight on to the loop if using that chain you referenced above

Just don’t pull anything heavy with it lifted, use it for towing/dragging low to the ground.
