bang a hodna on there driving an alternator and keep the batteries up that way ?
This. Whenever we hire modern ones the batteries don't last long anyway, an engine is a must IMHO, can't beat being self sufficient.

Thanks for that. How would I connect it all up? I will resend the picture showing the original configuration. Thanks for all your help.

Do you know what horse power the electric motor is and what shaft it joins the hydraulic pump? Once you know that find a Honda/chonda etc that matches and mount it where batteries are connect pump away you go. Could Even have an electric start one if you wanted,

or if keeping battery/electric maybe find a forklift engineer or electrical engineer etc who you can employ to do it for you.

There’s a few guys at factory we work at who’d probably geek out at it, next time I’m in I’ll ask them

God shout on the forklift engineer👍
They do require a bit if respect big batteries...cousins place a lad trapped the battery lead in the lid shorted it.....blew battery to bits and sent him flying...very lucky.
Newish Linde so few Bob to sort.😭

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Hodna engine coupled to a Lucas ACR18 or 23 alternator with the charge circuit connected to the battery leads ... looks like they're all in parallel putting out 12v ... the alternator's own regulator will control the output to the batteries and only charge as required

Mine had a honda gx 200 driving the alternator it was wired through a relay which stopped it charging while the pumps were working so as not to fry the alternator.
All controls in the basket & the ground controls, lock outs etc are 24volts so it’s difficult to make it hydraulic only.
I would fit the Honda gx390 with electric start so the engine can be started from the cage.

that makes a lot of sense(y) ...... some draw on the batteries when they'm running for sure and the alternator would want to 'contribute' to its max ability

That’s right, without the engine running 2 643 batteries would only lift it full height a couple times & the 8 horse Honda was on its knees when the alternator was charging

I see the value in being able to plug into the mains on a M.E.W.P. that isn't a drive about type.

The wiring diagram you put up doesn't come up clearly enough on my computer to be of any help

I've no idea if your charger still works and if you can use the machine while it charges.

Your 24V DC power supply is too low a voltage to contribute to battery charging (which is probably good as there is no danger of boiling the batteries dry)
Hopefully your on board charger/battery bank can work alongside your power supply so they can share the load.

If all else fails consider using a buck boost DC to DC converter to charge the batteries directly from your new power source, commonly used on new build camper vans,
so another source of know how ;)
Big fan of Victron Energy for electrickery and they actively share information.

That is some really useful input. The motor is 3kw. I will try and send a better picture of the wiring setup. All your comments and advice is such a help. Many thanks(y)(y)

The Motor and pump are close coupled (see Picture). Some of the the pictures show the original configuration, including electrical schematics. the other one with one battery shown, is me trying to see how I could possibly fit the 240v/24v 3Kw transformer & the 120amp rectifier, nothing is connected as I have no idea how to do it! :-(

you'd need some sort of charge regulation for sure, or you'd fry your batteries

Hi Giles, it 3 HP, if you look at the images I posted you can see one that shows the motor close-coupled to the pump. Thanks for your help. Terry

Why not run the hydraulic pump off a petrol or diesel engine? As mentioned take a lot of current, my 24V fork lift uses 110A on the pump, 30A on the drive motor.

Thanks. As currently the motor is directly coupled to the pump, how would I configure the setup, ie. controlling startup, actuation etc.,?

Many thanks
Terry
