3CX black cab

Have an 84/85 3cx that has transmission problems and thus it needs the BorgWarner shuttle box removing. Am guessing the forward clutch pack has the plates welded together or they're very well warped. When in gear,it will drive in neutral and forward and if reverse is selected it locks up. I removed the transmission from my own white cab over 20 years ago to fit a seal but can't remember if I split it at the flywheel and dropped the lot out or if it was between the bell housing and the shuttle box,dropping both it and the gearbox only,leaving the bell housing still attached to the engine. Can anybody tell me if it can be split further back or does the lot have to come out from the engine back?

very pleased to say my '87 never gave a moment's trouble in the tranny stakes ... mouse nest in the inlet manifold was a bugger though

would be my choice too (as long as the OP has the lifting ability) ..... waaaaay easier on the deck/bench with the ability to walk around it and see everything ... also a damned sight easier to re-assemble too

Thanks folks. Was just thinking it would be that much lighter if the bell housing could stay behind. Will get a go at it at the weekend.
