1T Dumpers - Which Best?

I’m currently weighing up the options on a little 1T dumper. There’s a few options out there; Thwaites, JCB, Terex etc

There is pros and cons to the 1T dumper as we all know. Easily turned over and don’t carry much. (I can truly vouch for that and not embarrassed to say as I had to have air ambulance out but still here to tell the tale) BUT size is a plus transport and on site.

I recently was privileged enough to drive a thwaites 1.5t hydrostatic swivel (no names) but it was a joy to drive but I can’t justify the price tag right now and they are very rare 2nd hand and even new.

I’m trying to weigh up which would be better and more reliable. Come across a few slightly older Thwaites 2010-2015 with under 1000hrs or JCB 2017 with approx. 300hrs. All around the £7-£8k mark.

The first jcb dumpers are terex before they started to make there own.

The terex has a kubota engine which usually fairs better if they go over.

What about a high tip tracked dumper ?
I have had both and prefer the tracked dumper for the time I use one.

I have a tracked dumper already but obv capacity is smaller and need something a little bigger.

I'll throw neuson in the mix, good little dumpers in the 1-2t size. 7 to 8k is a bit steep at 5 year old imho even with bonkers market at the mo. I'd reckon reliability be similar with all of them, its either kubota or yanmar motor and probably v similar hydraulics.

Yes that was meant to be on my list too. The market is all over the place at the moment. In my head newer and lower hours is better considering they are all pretty much the same (within reason) but hydrostatic is a must I think.

What year did JCB move from Terex? 2015/2016 wasn’t it?

I was wrong just been reading online. JCB started their own production end of 2017. Therefore the 2017 ones Ive seen online must be JCB branded Terex ones.

I think all 1ton are hydrostatic anyhow. Its a mental market and tbh an unfortunate time to be looking to buy. When i bought my 1 ton neuson (2011 i think) it was 3 year old with 750hrs i paid £4850+vat

Slanetrac's version has a 1t payload. Only issue with the tracked versions is the slow speed they move at

Speed and sometimes churn the ground up more than a dumper would.

Yeah they're good on soft ground but slow and can't half make a mess on good going.

Hard choice, few older machines popped up recently but big money for what they are in my opinion. Its a difficult decision.

Hold your fire and manage without for now would be my opinion. Second hand kit is ridiculous currently.

If prices for work rise to keep pace, then consider investing.

I’m not in a massive rush, just waiting for right deal to pop up.
New JCB 1THT are £14,300.

Found a few older 2017 JCB 1THTs around £8500 mark with 300hrs on which is almost half price, doesn’t seem such a bad deal.

or Thwaites 1T seem to pop up but prices vary on those quite a bit. 2005 about £5k. Any working dumper doesn’t seem to be leas than £5k.

Latest Terex one I saw was a 2015 with 1000hrs on - £6500.

So actually the 2017 JCB with a Kubota engine doesn’t seem bad value. Which is a Terex rebadged at that age. Wonder how much they were new when they were Terex models.

The £8500 jcb is a nice dumper ! Sturdy built thing and prefer them personally to a thwaites

Just looked back through this thread and saw the prices - obviously I now see it is strong money!
I know nothing about these dumpers, and have zero interest in them. I just saw the ad, remembered a thread on here and thought it worth posting. It gives an idea of what sellers are aiming for if nothing else I suppose.
