yes , the original one is cast, and the new one also . I was just wondering why the new one had a bigger hole with a little ball inside it

new one looks to me to be cast ali, in the pic. .......
the ball looks to me to be deep enough in its hole and far enough away from the peens, to be floating about in there, in some sort of valve-like / restricter role/manner??
as for the ROBOT cast into the new component ... JCB make a ROBOT so could well be a common component?????

None of the current Cat machines with a CaterPerkins have a spigot Bearing. The actual T/C carries the front of the shaft and the T/C is centralised on the flywheel by a flange. IIRC the JCB box is a very similar set up, probably took design cues from Turner.

Being it was Perkins in jcbs before their own engines would be same if not very similar bolt pattern for bell housing

Probably. There are SAE standards for bell housing bolt patterns

The bell housing on the Perks was a Perkins part, not JCB, so their their own engine will have their own bell housing. On the Perkins the 4 and 6 cyl blocks have the bolt holes spacing in common, but the top two are bigger on the 6’s.

I contacted vicary spares where i bought the parts from.
So it seems that the pistons with the bigger hole and ball in it are for the newer style reverser unit and the pistons with the smaller hole in the outside diameter are for the older style reverser.

My problem is now , i have the newer style reverser and what seems like the older style reverser pistons in it.
Could it be that it was rebuild before but with the wrong parts ?
Waiting a reply now , wich are the right ones.

Well , sometimes work comes in the way so it has been a while, but meanwhile i spoke to the mechanic who rebuilds the transmissions at jcb and he said the ones i had where the right ones , so i reused them.
They had no bur on them or scuffmarks. I am finished with the rebuild but not put in back in, but let's say getting the right parts was a challenge even with the partnumbers. I had to make a couple of tools to fit seals and to hold the 4wd uj flange to torque the nut.

Had to make a tool to fit the crankshaft rear oil seal at 4.6mm depth as the housing has no retaining lip and you can change the seal 3 times at various depths to allow for wear of the seal on the crankshaft sealing surface. And a conus to bolt to the crankshaft so you can slide the seal over without damaging it. A couple of different plates to bolt to the transmission housing to set the bearing play .I also fitted alignment pins to slide the bellhousing in place. All in all it was a great learning experience and it was a lot easier then i expected.

I also think someone was in there before me , because the bearing spacer at the front behind the bellhousing was the wrong one. It was 2mm to small in diameter and they glued it in with some sort of loctite . So i had to make a new one.

another question , the transmission oil cooler has been bypassed and a plain copper pipe in front of the radiator has been used.
The original oil cooler is breaking up inside and plugging up with rust. Can i just change the cooler with a piece of tube and mount a proper oil cooler in front of the radiator ? Wich flow rate would it need to have ?

I assume you mean replace the oil-to-water (exchanger) with an oil-to-air (radiator)?

Short answer is any cooling is better than none

Cooking the trans fluid is not good, but if you are not working the machine hard, it'll probably be fine.

hcparts.eu didn't have the original transmission cooler (oil to water ) in stock, so i ordered one with vicary with a original temp switch.
