1 ton high tip dumpers

Considering buying one in the near future. Have only used a newer jcb, whereas i’ll be looking at cheap end of market. Are the lever operated terex easy enough to use compared to having a throttle pedal on thwaites for example? Anything to look out for apart from obvious play in bushes and worn engines?

The lever terex ones can be a problem as the levers went NLA for a long time and they are quite troublesome. I would avoid if possible

I have a 2012 thwaites due in next week and a 2013 but I think the 13 is sold

With reference to ease of use I find if you use them for a bit they are actually better with more control however you have to set your revs which is a bit unnecessary in the grand scheme of things.

The terex you can put in its side with out it bending a rod ( usually) a thwaites with Yanmar will always bend a rod ....

Got an older terex hd1000 with the Kubota 3 cylinder in it - 2007 approx.

Bought it second hand and a note on the engine says it’s had a new head gasket after approx 1500 hours but not sure if that’s a common issue to be aware of or just unlucky. Only other problem was the handle snapped off right at the base of the plastic bit. Welded it back on rather than fork out a few hundred quid for a new one.

Other than that I think it’s great. I find the lever control makes it good in tight spots because you can just crawl along with it. Also if you’re going over bumpy terrain the revs stay more constant as you don’t have to worry about your foot jumping up and down on the accelerator

It is pretty slow but not sure if that’s the same on all of the hydro drive 1 tons

I find that the lever for movement are safer, as their always seems to be some clown who leaves dirt all over the floor leading to the pedal sticking down or not releasing so

Ive got a terex with the lever and find them alot better than the thwaites we had.

Ive had a slight electrical issue with the terex and now i know about it it seems a common thing.

And ross is correct about usually getting away with the terex going over but the thwaites will bend a rod.

Play in the centre pivot always worth checking. Depends how fussy you are but the older dumpers can get quite sloppy which doesn't help with good resale values.

Neuson worth a look? Don't know if you can still get them?

Was chatting to a guy in a hire shop about this today, he made the point that some big sites don’t like the lever control because it doesn’t have a separate brake although I’ve never had an issue with mine

None of the pedal ones I've used have had a separate brake pedal
