Not exactly flame thrower related but the tattie cannon worked best with purple ronnies BO basher, sadly no longer available (rip woolworths)
Always remember my mates one, one night it misfired, took the potato out, gave the boiler igniter a flick and up it went. Burnt his eyebrows and eye lashes off plus a bit of his hair

It's amazing that we never get arrested 🤣

I used to have a long plastic barrel to fit my bead cheetah (you know, the tanks that tyre fitters use to seat tubeless tyres) .
One day I was persuaded to get it out for the new batch of seasonal workers to play with. Somebody asked how high a spud would go so without really thinking just launched one straight up. As it shot up I realised that I'd failed to listen out for prince Charles helicopter taking off from Highgrove, it shot past in front and fell behind !

I had visions of being locked away for downing the future king with a King Edward 😁

My old man had a Volvo estate that had floor mats with thousands of conical shaped rubber bits that all started to fall out as they perished.... we discovered they were a perfect rubber bullet fit in 177 air rifles, this led to me and my mates splitting up and have a slightly more dangerous game of paintball, I came round house corner and met my mate head on ,we both jumped and I shot him straight in chest before i knew what i was doing ..... fortunately when he realised he wasnt dead we did manage to extract it out of his little man boob 🤦
I won't mention the run across the slurry store game .....and the mate that didn't get across 🤣

That brings back memories. We did similar with plastic pellets. Newspaper 'body armour', and safety goggles that soon steamed up and were pushed out of the way! 😲

Showing an early prowess for tinkering, I'd taken an old .177 Relum Tornado and drilled out the breech slightly. Into this went 'shotgun catridges' consisting of a section of drinking straw containing three .177 BBs and tissue wadding. Ouch.

Reebok hexalite trainers had little rubber balls in the sole that became accessible when worn out - they were a perfect fit in a .22 air rifle and left a right nasty bruise….

Well I think I have judged it quite well. Filled both machines and dumper to the brim and managed to get 20litres in a drum before the tank said no more. Will be a funny month with Easter break so might leave it a week or 2 before filling with white as I think the price may easy a little now we are back down to $100 a barrel.

When I was in UN service in Lebanon we were about 30 - 40 Guys that bought paintball guns
It quickly became boring because everyone was just hiding and emptied the magazine blindly in the hope of hit someone on the other team
so one day a colleague and I were in a store where we found slingshots with arm braces and 8mm thick-walled surgical tubing they send a 12mm ball bearing ball through a car door
we tested with paintball balls and it they hit so hard it became a dent in the car door
and we learned fast that it got hot in 40 degrees celsius with enough layers of clothing to not end up in the medical office in Camp after each match the slingshots paintball balls could knock a man out if he was not dressed with enough layers.
Damn much more fun because now you had a shot and to hit you had to stick your head up to aim and it became a lot more sport out of it and we could show off all the colors of the rainbow in the shower 😖🤣

Impressive they still sale the same slingshot that we bought 27 years ago
https://www.mcsoutdoorstore.ie/product/barnett-cobra-slingshot/
Btw slingshots of this kind is prohibited by law in Norway It is classified as a firearm
I still have it 🤣🤔 recently replaced the rubber tubing 🤣

Just seen a post about cat litter on Facebook, then found this….. who knew you could filter the dye out lol

Paste:
Forget all those fanciful tales of pouring it through fuller's earth to remove the dye, it's just not true. What they actually use is Oleum (fuming sulphuric acid) & cat litter (the active ingredient contained in it, that neutralises the smell of cat urine also does wonders at removing dye), lime or cement powder, then filter it again thru cotton wool or a one micron industrial steam filter. This not only strips the dye but also all of the lubricity agents and all the other additives that are added to DERV, anti-wax & anti-foam. The resultant toxic sludge is then dumped at the side of the road, with all the resulting environmental impacts. Oh...and because red diesel has a different SG to DERV, the hygrometer trick still works equally as well. Most HM C&E roadside testing (dipping) used to be done with a clear squeegee bottle and a pipe, they would simply take a sample from your tank, look at the colour, either nick you on the spot or put it back in the tank and let you go on your way. But now they have very neat, small portable mini labs to test your DERV at the roadside. Kerosene (28sec oil) is commercial/home heating oil which is known as 'kero' or 'paraffin'. It is straw/orange in colour, very clean burning (has a very low sulphur content) and economical to use, however it contains no lubricant and is thus not suitable as fuel for engines. Even when mixed 50/50 with DERV, HM C&E roadside checks can still detect it, using their new high-tech mini labs.

Some people fit a second "hidden tank" so they can use red derv undetected. Carefully routing the supply/return pipes out of view. Only to be caught because the HM C&E have dipped there main tank and its been green derv they have pulled out, reason being if derv stands about it absorbs water "hygroscopic" then if left for a long while green-blackish microbes grows in it. HM C&E staff are dipping cars & light vans all day & if they can't get a pipe down your fuel filler tube, alarm bells will ring.

Red diesel in a un-tampered state, will not harm a road going engine, most damage to pumps related to running on red diesel is caused by water or other contaminants being mixed with the fuel. The source normally can be traced back to dirty fuel containers/cans being used to store & transport the fuel. We have over the years removed some vile looking fluids from fuel tanks over the years! Red diesel stripped of its dye & additives will wax in cold weather, foam causing problems filling small auto fuel tanks and may wreck injection pumps due to the removal of lubricity agents.

So the conclusion they must be aiming to bring the general public to is just nick it off sites. Therefore it's not there problem as the duties been paid

Cat liter has been used for years and to "clean" diesel and has no adverse effects on its quality😗

Guy clearly says it removes its anti jellying agents and other lubricants and still leaves the chemical marker.

been some great stories on Facebook posts about red diesel from the old boys, one lot saying they had big 70kg calor gas cylinder rigged up as a red tank on the back of the transit in a tap from cab so if tank got dipped tank was clean 😂

Old boys tales that forget there is a return of surplus fuel back to the tank. You can tiger loop the return feed but the old boys never mention that!!!

I am know just asking out of curiosity. How many people have actually been dipped?
In all my time of running vehicles and fleets I have only once been dipped. Stopped in my 18ton beaver tail many years ago in a joint operation when they where also looking for people working whilst on benefits. The truck wouldn’t fit through there pop up gazebo units they where using, I didn’t know my NI number, the serial number of the digger that I was carrying(WTF!!!!) and amazingly, there tube wasn’t long enough to get the last of the diesel fumes that I was running on!! Lorry was once stopped at Ross at the Ministry checkpoint but all they where interested in was weight not fuel. I have a vague recollection of dropping sheep at the cattle market one day and some vehicles where bing checked there. So my point is, is the fear of enforcement worse than the reality??

I was going to ask the same thing. In over 30yrs of driving a van i've only been stopped once, they checked for red and the van all over for road worthiness.
I remember standing there feeling really relieved and a bit smug as i'd just done some work on the van to bring it up to MOT standards and it had a new ticket on it just the day before, so I was pretty sure it was fine and they wouldn't find anything wrong.

Here is a tip for you - they often hang out near a fuel station selling red. Of course they wait until you've filled up your cans, machine whatever and pull you over after.
