Interesting that in the main people Only want to re-introduce predators. We used to have no end of songbirds in the garden until the sparrow hawks moved in. I’d rather have a blackbird singing to me than a bloody sparrow hawk disembowelling a pigeon on my garden table. Protected species my backside.

I'm not signing, whilst I agree with the work done and feel it's a good job done the reality is it's for a court to determine if it is legally correct.

Reality is IF the E.A verbally asked for it to be cleared and the parish council where present at said moment he shouldn't have too much concern......

We shall see. But it's a legal decision not a public opinion one.

Everyones an armchair river expert and can stop flooding with a digger. I refrain from commenting on rivers in places i don't know, i know what needs done on the river where i live as I've seen it flood a few times. As for one elsewhere not a clue, what might help one section might destroy the next.
A verbal agreement with the ea and then after he does the work take him to court isn't right. But then did he do as agreed if there was an agreement or did he do something entirely different? Was there even any form of agreement? As said legal decision now.

My experience with the E.A is what they say on the day and what they are prepared to stand by are entirely different things.

Verbal agreement on anything that may be contentious is asking for trouble. But I can see why he went for it if he had witnesses. The odds on a civil servant putting a contentious order in writing is not very high, so it was the only way to stop his bit of river flooding. Why should he put up with being flooded to save someone else when the only reason he was having problems was years of no maintenance. He didn't even bill the EA for the work, which must have cost a fair bit.

I've just seen a local farmer with his old 812 powerslide....with its boom well into the brook clearing it ..but it's now static with the engine cover up ..so maybe he'll be along asking whats wrong shortly
But I know for a fact the next farmer down asked about clearing it and got a firm NO from ea and rivers trust without all sorts of permits etc he said...so. but they said they can happily pay for fences the full length as they have grants for that.

The 6 million flood defence scheme in keswick was overseen by a local lad a few years above me at school. Ah good local knowledge you'd think. No. Uni education and probably hardly ever been outside in the rain definately not been all over the area during a flood to see where all the water is going, should be going, can't go etc.

I was on a job and the chief drainage engineer for the county was on site aswell as a load of other big wigs trying to work out the purpose of a header wall across a large ditch that had an adjoining ditch run over the top of it. 20min conversation. Until I pointed out that the ditch wasn't there originally and erosion had caused it to move over and sediment up the original path. Noone on site could fathom erosion happening in real life.

A lot less development and hard scaping as well, we move water too quickly now a days to rivers etc
