Gears on old dumper

Hi All , can anyone advise on what all four gears actually do and possibly the correct order of use ? It’s 4 forward and one reverse. It’s an old 1984 - 4 tonne dumper. I’ve established that (B) has the most talk but slow speed. The rest aren’t much good from a standing start. Cheers 👍

probably just a conventional gate, but reversed - i.e. the box is facing the other way to the usual direction , so B is first, A second, etc.

If anyone needs any info on this engine I came across an old p600/3 manual. Here’s a pic of the gear box. Cheers

Don’t think that’s a TK box, it’s too short and the selector housing looks different. Did the CF use the same box as the TK? Assuming we’re talking Bedford and I haven’t missed something along the way.

TK had a pretty titchy box for a 7.5 tonner @Bri963 .... dunno what was in the bigger ones - never owned one, but had a soft spot for the TK .... be like an antique now, but in their time were a comfy old truck .... PAS would've been nice though :giggle:

I thought, possibly wrongly, that the TK and MK shared the same box, except on the MK the main box fed into a transfer box through a short shaft. The MK 4 speed box wasn’t very big, but I think it was bigger than that one in the picture. Mind you I haven’t touched a Bedford box in over 25 years and my memory isn’t what it was. The Bedford boxes were mounted on the flywheel housing by four studs, IIRC 3/4” AF.

It’s what I do!
I think the MK/TK 380 Diesel had a larger box, where as the twin wheel CF and 4 pot TK used the same small box, yes power steering was all in the upper arms, and if I remember rightly, we had to steer into the bend and out of it! Very little camber angle🤨
