Effing mice!

Cranked up the 818 the other day: hissing noise, and oil dribbling all over the cab floor! Effing mice had chewed four servo pipes to bits, using the fabric braiding for nest material. £100 odd quid for four new pipes + lots of swearing whilst trying to pull the new pipes through; not good.

Does anyone else have trouble of with mice in machines?

Have had them in machines in the past, but thankfully not had anything badly damaged.

If your fed up with the issue in the 818 then I will gladly take it off your hands, for an agreeable sum of course......

You’re interest is duly noted, but you might have to wait a while. Mind you, mice might have eaten it all by then.

A couple of years ago I noticed that over the Christmas break something had been having the soundproofing away on a machine for nesting material so nowadays when I have machines back at yard for any length of time I lift all covers and put a bit of poison here and there in the likely spots - scary thought them feckers chewing all that hidden wiring

I have never understood why no one axle stands for agricultural machinery shaped like saddlestones to prevent this
Obviously a bit harder on an excavator but probably less common than the likes of a combine

a mate had rats destroy his wiring loom under the bonnet of his Bora one weekend ... fine on the friday evening ... got in it to go to work Monday a.m. and no go......popped the bonnet to a scene of utter devastation ...... cost him a LOT of money to sort .... got some pix of it, somewhere ..... was real lucky (or maybe not), that it didn't go up in smoke overnight ..... he has a flat on a farm

Summat chewed all the foam off of my windscreen scraper, in the 'Drema cab one night, quite a while ago and I thought " 'Oh s**t' ... visitors, don't need them " .... but never saw another trace ..... 'praps there was too strong a scent of cat in there .... Sparty does spend a lot of time in the cab, ....... asleep, given the chance to get in there

When I moved into the farm 15 years ago there were thousands of rats and mice and I couldn't get on top of them. You'd literally see dozens of them scurrying about at all times of day looking out of any window. In the end paid a local pest controller for a yearly contract. He comes every other month and tops up the traps with poison. he's £270 / year and touch wood I haven't seen one since using his services. Worth every penny as I had to rewire the whole farm because of the little fu@#ers chewing through cables.

I think there is a guy near us who supplies a similar product to the gas powered captive bolt that Charlie put up on the video. Guy who works for me used one in his barn as he was having problems with rats attacking his tractor wiring. Said it was incredibly effective. Sorted the problem in no time. He initially thought it wasn’t working as he didn’t find any bodies, but checking the firing counter it had fired loads and he didn’t have any signs of infestation any more. Reputedly rats are canaballs so you should only find the last one, unless something else takes that.
Much better than poison as you don’t end up killing stuff you don’t want to accidentally.
