I’m just about to put a deposit down on this new van . Any one got a newish one they can give thoughts on before I bite the bullet ? I’ve never bought any van or plant brand new yet and it makes me nervous 😬

never bought a vehicle new, but a lot of machine tools, etc. ......... 's painful, but as long as it earns well the pain soon fades ..... my Kingsland metalworker cost me 15 grand in '92, but I'd bet it made its cost ten times over in the time I had it, in productivity and efficiency savings ... got me jobs i would not have been able to compete on without its capacity and speed .... buying new I got exactly what I wanted, in pristine condition, never been abused (and never was) and it got looked after carefully, by everyone. :giggle:

As said above, go for the himatic. Also get the comfort package. If you spend any amount of time in your vehicle why would you not want to be as comfortable as possible?
Reversing camera is absolutly rubbish. Has a fish eye lens and so much distortion it is virtually impossible to use. Get an aftermarket option instead.
A lot of people don't like adaptive cruise control, but it is personal preference.

Trouble is even 2nd hand stuff will have all that shite now too- unless it's really old. The way used trucks/plant holds its value at the minute can one really afford to buy used anymore?

Yeah that's the trouble with bigger gear. But towable plant and vans etc- can't really see there's much benefit in buying used...

I’ve just bought a 61 plate ranger tipper. Last of the pre ad blue/dpf engines. 50k miles.

😹 how old is your defender?

vans used to depreciate a lot more than plant, so used but tidy was the smart option. I think things will go back that way, this is just a blip due to shortages and free money.

24 years old, so is the Disco and both doing sterling service. BUT the only reason I keep them is cos A) I can't find any cost effective way of replacing them at the moment- (£30+k for a new pickup with a silly little engine in it- f**k that) and B) I rarely travel more than 10 miles a day so not really justified.
