I was told that the credit on your account isn't actually with the big merchants. It's with a pending company via them and therefore thy have to pay to register your account. If it isn't being used they still get a charge from the lending company for your account.
Don't know how true it is but was the excuse used by one of the big merchants.
'factoring' ... used to be big biz .... didn't think it happened so much these days .... most big outfits tend to insure against debt, rather than losing a percentage to factoring agencies on every bill. ... and spread the premiums over every customer's goods supplied.
had a massive 'barney' with a stockholder many years ago when he was supplying a customer that'd taken them for a quarter £mil a few days earlier .... he'd said they weren't bothered as the debts were insured
"...and me and all the other people who pay you, suffer the premiums for that on our bills" ....
" .. 's the way it is Gra "
......
never used them again 🤬

had a factors ring me once about 'an unpaid invoice' for a consumables supplier I used ... "what's the date, advice and invoice numbers please?" didn't match anything from him at that time and told 'em so ... so rang him to ask WTF it was all about ?
was for a grands-worth of s/h mig set, so not easy to forget about and as i'd not had it or ever even seen/discussed said purchase, decided he was on the fiddle.
I knew him well and'd dealt with him for years ... told him if he was on the make, he could've at least given me a heads up, then rang the factors back with my take on the situation. I was not gonna get involved or implicated in any fraud for anyone ..especially this bloke ....... don't know how many of these he'd pulled, but they were all coming home to roost and they'd put him through within a week!!

Morning

Just checked the numbers and ben was right

We work from polypipe RRP which is s crazy 229.14 then you get your less 72% which brings it down too £64.16 +vat

Apologies on this wee do keep the branded polypipe and we have seen the biggest price increase I have ever seen from a supplier this month

I know this may mean we won't sell as much but unfortunately 72% is the most I can give you and the decision to stay with polypipe is above my head (which is unpopular decision)

Apologies

Turns out I get 72% on 160mm but used to get 86% on 110mm stuff. Just now means I need to farm out quotes to a few locals and the specialists like burdens/wosely or Cottrill’s etc.

time to stock up on plastic express so the lads don’t get any from markovitz at that price

this is just for 1 x 160mm triple socket T

Probably how they get to 86% on the 110mm by screwing you on the 6” 🤦‍♂️! Mkm and Jewsons are same discount for both sizes! Try JDP, they are fair game on big pipe orders.

Apart from the staggering increase in price, being able to offer you a 72% discount and still make a profit they are just screwing over most of their customers. It is no wonder you can get stuff cheaper on the internet even including postage.

Apparently polypipe are rethinking their proposed massive price rise which is due to be coming in shortly (and had possibly started on some items).

Things are gona stop pdq with way things are going.
one would think so Alex ...... had these sorts of jumps in steel costs and all sorts, before the 'crash in '07/8 ....... but for different reasons and we certainly weren't seeing the fuel / energy hikes, etc., like we are of late, which are 'fueling' (pardon the pun) most of what we are seeing, together with all the other crap we've endured the last two years.
think it was @GazCro said elsewhere that stuff has been 'cheap' for so/too long .... which is true of some things. We are however being royally screwed on a great deal of hikes  ..... British Gas's profits, for instance, are up by 44% I read last night 🤬 ... hardly any wonder 🤬🤬

My key account is with Alfreton, very small yard but Adrian the manager is sound - and as blunt as they get! Which is perfect 👌🏻
