JCB 8014 CTS

Hi there I have a JCB 8014CTS (2015) and i have been giving it a major service and greased all the nipples with lithium grease, but i have just looked at the manual and it shows these specs for the slew ring gear teeth and bearings
Slew ring gear teeth JCB special slew pinion grease
slew ring bearings JCB HP grease
Can anyone tell me if there really is a difference between these or can i just use standard lithium grease for all ?

I am positive that all the hundreds on the hire firms never got anything special. I've never used anything special just grease everything every time the tank is filled. Been using it since 800hrs and now 1600hrs and no problems so far

The pinion grease is basically a very tacky grease that you apply directly to the gear teeth via the access plate under the turret. As Smiffy says, it’s unlikely that most ever get done at all, let alone with the right grease!

So are you saying its ok to just pump the same lithium grease onto the teeth by hand ? because i take it the bearing ones are the ones from the nipple each quarter rotation or the cab ?

Yes the bearing is lubricated via the nipples and the gear teeth applied by hand directly to the teeth. If you’ve got the correct kind of grease then it’s obviously going to be better, but if you’ve only got one type then get it in there, your not going to do it any harm, but may want to do it more regularly. But it’s probably never ever been done, so you will be giving it a proper treat! As Regy53 said, any grease is better than none.

I was reading the operators manual (lucky I wasn't spotted, should have been polishing the cab) of a CAT and noticed that they specify that there should only be enough grease in the box to leave a track of its passing. It would appear that too much is not good either

If you pump to much in to any bearing with a seal you will blow the seal out and allow dirt in.
Whereas pins want to be pumped until it comes out so as to clean all the dirt out

HP is a bit thicker and more tacky, LM low melting lubricates faster but need to apply more regularly

My guess would be
A over application would make a huge mess
B it risks becoming a ball of abrasive grit if there is too much. Better to re apply often and keep it clean

I don’t think the machine in question has a “track” under the ring gear.
Im sure there was another member asking a very similar question about this a while ago.

ok thanks for all the input, next question is, how do i get to see the teeth ?
I have looked all over and under , is there a panel or something i need to remove to physically see the teeth ?

Hey Dean, did you ever find the pinion on this machine, im "tryin" to do the same on my 8018, manual says access hatch under the cab but like you cant see anything (eBay Manuals eh)
