Diagnosis of faulty reverse

Hi everyone, I’m new to this group and could do with some advice. I can put my hand to most things but mechanics is a new thing for me. I can’t find reverse gear on my old dumper. It’s a 1994 with a 3 cylinder lister engine. I’ve looked at the syncro, cleaned it and all seems well. I’ve worked out it’s 4 forward an 1 reverse. New gear box oil but still won’t engage. Is it possible to manually move the gears inside of it the casing to rule out anything more sinister? Im hoping it’s something to do with lever not sitting correctly or something.

Any dumpers with a four speed (manual) box I`ve come across you need to lift the stick up to select reverse, could it be as simple as this?

Oh I hope so ! Something tells me it doesn’t lift up. I’m certainly definite that it’s a fixed ball and socket which pivots in all directions. I going to give it a go tomorrow

I’m actually thinking your a legend !!! I’ve just been out in the pitch black with a torch just tried lifting the stick and your right it does lift feel a bit daft now. Thank you
