The ideal trailer......

Not sure its pub material, buy itd be the sort of thing Id be talking about in the pub, if i was ever allowed to go....

So Ive a 10x5 twin axle indespension trailer, ideal for most things except the new digger....my DX27 is 61inches wide the trailer is 60🙄, i can get it on but its not ideal.
So my question is this does the perfect trailer exist, at least 61 inch wide bed at least 10ft long and a pure exstasy would be tri axle.
Ive done a fair amount of research, borrowed my mates 12x6 triaxle but its almost impossible to reverse onto the drive at home , round a blind 90 without demolishing the gate posts....of the rented property

Something that has griped me for a while.

Personally I don't get why Ifor has not made a GH94 with 3.5t gross...... Likewise It would seem easy enough to put some skids on each side of a plant trailer to enable a Dumper to sit on it.....

The Ifor Williams gh1054 is 64" from memory, wouldn't bother with tri axle you`ll lose around a 100kg payload, you must be close to the weight already with a DX27?
Agree with you about the 12x6, I`ve got a GH126 and its a fair size (width) in somewhere tight.

When you get to 6ft wide they get too wide overall and become awkward i much prefer wheels underneath which if loaded correctly the extra height isn't an issue. With the plant trailers having long drawbars and wheels nearer the back they are quite a numb trailer to get into tight spots to start with

The one i have currently feels like you just cant get the digger far enough forward on the trailer to get the balence right, at 45mph the tail is wagging the dog

The old indespension challengers where the other way round and the drawbar so short that if you do get a machine far enough forwards with the bucket on the bucket rest the boom is virtually through the back window of the tow vehicle

As for ultimate trailer these will get close
Just a problem finding a tow vehicle

Can’t image reversing a fully loaded tri axle around tight corners is fun on the clutch..

I just squeeze my 3t dumper on a gx126, it won’t fall off in a hurry! Nice trailer but they are wide, It is what it is though, if you’ve got the kit you need the right trailer for it !

these guys do anything suitable Rich? .. good quality stuff ..... used to buy all my running gear off them, mid 90's onwards, when Bramber stuff got hard to find (they went bust, Peak bought all their rights, but didn't continue a lot of their products for a while)
DCP_4151.JPG DCP_4154.JPG DCP_4188.JPG always had piles of their products/running gear about the shop

The thing with the plant trailers is because of the long drawbar and width because of the wheels on the outside you tend to buy the smallest one to suit the machine you need it for and often end up unable to put the machine where it balance properly. I carry my 219 in a gh94 99% of the time as its convenient. On the odd occasion i put it on the lm126 ifor it tows so much nicer as you've a bit extra room to get it in the sweet spot.

Yeah but it depends what part of a perfect trailer you are going to sacrifice.
Needing an o license or the selection of little problems with 3.5t trailers.

The biggest ifor plant trailer is a pig of a thing even behind a lorry.
The wide but slightly shorter versions are lovely behind a 7.5t lorry.
A twin axle gx106 behind a 7.5t tipper will get places a twin cab transit tipper won't

True story, tbh its also on a decent slope up over ...

So if i ever need to bring it all home i take the digger off and track it in followed by much swearing and sweating. Ill video it tomorrow if its still light when i get home .....

Try a nugent, you can put the 3 ton on and sit at 70 on the motorway if that’s what your into, easy to forget the things behind you it’s that composed
One of my customers is a main dealer for nugent, he’s selling loads of them lately, think I’ll be swapping my ifor in for one when it’s time is up. They come past all the time and are silent, unlike the ifor rattle which reminds you it’s still attached 😆

worst trailer ever - LM146 beavertail, Christ that thing was terrible!!

No really, im steady away and Im never more that 15 miles from home....

Its the finger nail imprints in the steering wheel and my arse eating the seat that puts me off moving the digger myself
