Had to use the old trick of diluting the tank with a bit of petrol. Not sure the tier 4 onwards machines would put up with that nowadays. Thing is, you get to site, spend all this time defrosting the padlock to get in, then the container door, then the water to get the toilets and kettle going, then the machines running, then realise the ground is frozen solid, all the aggregates are one big solid pile, everything is slippy as hell and its literally too cold to do anything!
Should have stayed in bed!
But I appreciate for you up in Scandinavia its like that for weeks every year so I guess you learn to deal with it and are better prepared.

I remember that year well, the 3cx was never switched off long enough to wax up! I’d park it outside the services(was snow clearing them) on solid ice, sign in/ grab some bits and within 10mins It would of melted the ice where it was parked! 😬 Hit -18 for afew days!

I was climbing trees on Wilmslow golf course one day that week - my newly fitted combi-boiler condenser overflow froze up and the house was freezing at 5am, and it was really hard to warm up all day after that (particularly my hands - before then I thought heated chainsaw handles were a total waste of time but I always order them now!).
My old 300tdi HiCap boiled over on the way to site (as unknown to me it must have been frozen up) and got topped up with 2 litres of Vimto (which will still be in there thinking about it!).
The climbing ropes remained frozen all day so you could hold them horizontal like a stick, when the friction-hitch hit a frozen section of rope you either plummeted or stopped dead!
The greenkeeper’s thermometer on the north-side of their shed never got above -18C all day.
Really cold spell - I actually don’t mind that sort of weather though, I’d take it over damp/wet any day.

It's not a problem if you have the right gear but 99%of the time that gear is way to hot to wear in this country or atleast the south east
I had a pair of flannel lined jeans from America, lovely things unbelievably warm, completely unusable

yep ... was quite a cold spell .... didn't get above -15c here for a fortnight .... and some sort of white shite with it .... were the only ones in/out here for weeks (only ones with 4x4s) the one neighbour at the time - 1200ltr water tank froze solid and they moved into town for a month :rolleyes: ... left me their keys and asked me to keep an eye on the place :giggle: .. t'other ones (our current nice ones) left their vehicles at the top of the drive, after I'd dragged them up there with a well shod disco and walked up/down. :)

We all sound like old blokes talking about the 50s...2011 doesn't seem like than long ago...😂👍but it's 10 years ago😳
Our boiler died and was in middle of been swapped but could get plumber onto the roof to fit the vent whatsit ..it was cold ..woodburner only.😏
