The 60’s and 70’s were a good time to be in muckshifting, scrapers to cobble dogs with and plenty of work. It was possible to jack on one job mid morning and be working on another one in the afternoon..
Had a 983 of Merriman’s on the Kings Lynn bypass in 1970.’ish
Yes the 60s and 70s were the Golden Age of bulk muck shifting with scrapers before 360s and ADTs although there are signs that one or two outfits are rediscovering the benefits of scrapers - both motor and towed boxes.
This 983 is in a private collection now!
