I know a bloke who had a near miss. Got a tug going home empty, bloke said he couldn’t do anything as no machinery on the back. He now runs on white, but is still avoiding a large chunk of legislation as regards hgv’s.
Much of the problem is that it’s only hmrc who are interested due to tax loss- seems DVSA don’t give a toss.

Round here the policy is fastrak with triaxle low loader
You also need chrome mirror guards lots of lights everywhere cab mascots sign writing saying plant and groundworks
A big sign written full width mud flap on the trailer. And just about every accessorie that makes you look as un agricultural as possible.
Then proceed to do what ever you like safe in the knowledge the police are so short staffed they really couldn't be bothered to pull you unless you where handing out free dougnuts

I believe the mud on your tracks etc counts as moving soil to improve farm land so you can go anywhere do anything just don’t dig your tracks out….

I puzzle to work out the lads running 1-4 brand new machines with Tiltrotators on who say they can’t afford to run a wagon hence why they use tractors….. maybe the new tilty machines are why they can’t afford the wagon 😂

i don’t use mine anymore not efficient for me I pay my mate instead, thin line of morality but it’s on him although we are working on farms rebuilding agricultural barns so who knows the actual legality.

Heard a Massey grunting up the lane yesterday...Volvo ec 5.5 on the back...not a strap or chain in sight...
Night time is the time for moving stuff round here...but no one appears to give a FF atm .

Same here, go down to the local towns in the evening, near enough guaranteed to see tractors with low loader trailers moving plant

Trouble is tractor and trailer is so much better for many agricultural and rural works. No compulsion to offload on the road and track it miles to the job- just pull the machine accross a field or whatever job done. Especially if running sub 8 ton on multipuporse dump trailer- no dumper required etc.

I don't think anyone has an issue with using tractors if done properly. Its the red diesel, no taco, no operators licence brigade that get the hate.

That’s a good point . I just had to track my 13 tonner up the road on tyres to get to a site . A tractor would of got all the way .

I'd be surprised if anyone ran a tractor and trailer legitimately in place of a lorry as would expect by the time you've spent 50-60k on a half decent tractor and lowloader setup the lorry is going to be more economical to buy and run

Tbh it's not just one firm there must be a dozen setups like that, within 10 miles of me, all the same then a collection of normal ag tractors that have never seen a field.
Saw one on fb the other day showing off there new trailer and daily updates of moving kit around.
Being that little bit further towards London than you I think makes it worse and tbh the closer you get it gets even worse I think they just presume that people will have less knowledge of how dodgy it is.
