The prices of manual vs hystat Thwaites units make interesting reading.
It crossed my mind that manual is easier to maintain / diagnose in a basic workshop. I owned a little Winget 1500 for some years, it was very reliable.

I had a wee 3 tonne winget ! Great little dumper . I took it to Eigg to do a wee job for a pal and sold it too him before I left . As far as I know it’s still on the island

I was more thinking of the Winget 4WD range, but see they are a bit wider than equivalent Thwaites, I note also Winget make a tracked mini dumper based on the Honda Power Chassis - it would be interesting to know what transaxle this chassis has - because one of the Chinese makes boast a 'Japanese Axle' (both being I think belt driven diff steer).

Winget make nice stuff, the design hasn't changed since the 80's and they are basic and reliable..... I've a feeling almost all there products are direct special order for export?

seen a lot worse for the money :rolleyes: .. 's a lump though for the capacity :unsure: ... my old Alligator's 2.5 t and a lot more compact than that :whistle:

I did wonder if some of the Winget stuff was export only, the lack of any ROPS bar on the 2WD & possibly the engine powering it. They suggest the above can only manage inclines of 1 in 10. I think this is a bit of back covering as my old 2WD would manage much more than this in 1st! but not in wet weather. The upside of handle start is that sometimes if stuck it would 'wind out' on the handle where the wheels would spin under power. I used to team it with a hired in Tusker digger dumper. The thinking at Tarmac re ideal carrier size was based on 5 to 7 heaped bucket cycles of the loading machine to give a good load in the carrier. This was for local rather than 'muck away'

A bit different...

A tracked messersi TCH 15. Could have some advantages being tracked, looks very stable. Not the cheapest though...

a godsend on certain jobs but slow for others. Depends upon your work. Wet soggy conditions they just keep going, but hard dry conditions slow them down and wheels are much faster regardless.

Fair enough they may have their name on a lot of main bits but to be fair they always did with thwaites until thwaites didn't want to use jcbs engine. A dumper isn't a very complicated machine to build but it's easy to f up. I'm not saying don't buy jcb dumpers just that they are imo still largely the terex design as are the mecs. In any case any of the 6 ton and above dumpers post emissions regs tightening up don't interest me as much as a cab would be nice, 74hp just ain't enough.

Those smaller post emission engines in dumpers of terex mec and JCB are flat with no go had a terex 6 ton last year could barely pull it's self up a road with slight gradient loaded felt like it was taking for ever and didn't dare try for 3rd gear
If I had a old 9 ton nueson loaded to the gunnels it would have pissed it while being way heavier and running to same size 4 pot motor just with more power

Had a price on a high tip jcb dumpster brand new i think was around 7.5k a month or 2 back
