First of many common sense post brexit changes...I'll be honest I thought it spelt chaos on the roads...now I think well plenty of old folk alive that happily drive 7.5t trucks with no license..

The end of the BE test has nothing to do with Brexit its self.

More to do with Gov ass covering being seen to do something to help the lorry driver situation.

Er honestly I dont know for sure.
I think not from the way the NI gov have responded to what out gov are doing.

So how does it work if you have a C licence can you tow a small trailer behind a truck? I’ve never done the C+E licence but have thought it might be handy occasionally if I hook up a flat ifor Williams onto the truck giving space for another container or box, so would be under 3.5T but on the back of a truck.

that said .... my license is pre '97 (1974) and there was some quirk which didn't restrict the trailer weight, so regularly drove 7.5 +3.5 as 11t GTW (1t less than permissible GTW for the truck) plus i had a full C anyway
I know it was legal ... old man was a 30 yr traffic cop ... knew it inside out ... and he'd said fine

You can only tow a 750kg plated trailer.

That exemption to the restriction had to be claimed in 97 when it first came in. If you did not then your licence will show a restriction code (either on the card or if you have the paper one still online).

If restricted you can only tow 750kg with a 7500kg C1 vehicle.
