We will quickly see the demise of the pickup in the UK..... Long live the Defender 90 and other early 2000's pickups.

Grenadier😌 but in seriousness has anyone considered what people who need to shift/tow or simply actually work will use in 10 years time?

Keep running old kit, will still be fuel, the cost of it will be the problem. Although going electric is even more costly

Think there's a push to legalise such substances.

But ramps aren't part of the trailer they're additional equipment. I don't see how on earth you can see otherwise.
I have used ally ramps to load stuff into my pickup and tie them to the laser rack.
The weight of them would take my truck over the 2040kg limit am I supposed to re classify my truck for the sake of a ramp used 3 times a year??
Thats just silly the ramps are not used on the truck so are a load.

They are part of the trailer.

Your also muddying the water by bringing o license unladen weight rules, vehicles class would be factory spec

There is quite a few new pickups that are still under 2040kg...
Navara
L200/fullback
Isuzu
Ranger xl double cab
To be fair by next year there will possibly be only the isuzu under 2040kg as nissan and mitsubishi won't be selling pickups in the uk. Plus alot of pre 2012 pickups are under 2040
4x4 versions or double cab versions?

If not wont be DP anyway.

They are part of the trailer.

Its not being it's exactly the same. In absolutely every way.
The fact there is a place to carry them makes absolutely not the slightest difference.
Nor does them being present make slightest difference to how the trailer functions on the road. They are not bolted pinned or otherwise permanently secured to the trailer. They are a tool enabling the trailer to be loaded. As much as a ratchet strap is a tool to secure the loads. And quite simply whilst I know my suggestion is silly by pointing it out you have merely proved my point as one scenario cannot be the opposite of the other. Either both are true or neither are true.

Mercedes were the first to stop, then the Renault version and apparently Nissan is not releasing their new generation in Europe. Mitsubishi is apparently pulling out of the UK and Europe full stop, as in all cars and vans with after sales bought out by isuzu
I'm guessing it'll be linked to the emissions regs that manufacturers have to meet across their whole range. Mitsubishi and nissan were selling a lot of pickups as a % compared to other models when you compare them to Toyota or ford. Dunno how isuzu get round it mind.

Thought you had seen the light with your dmax
I love my D Max..... BUT I'm under no illusions..... It's already at 130000 and climbing. D Max has a lifespan and won't be rebuildable in the future, notably the electrics.

2004 ford ranger is pretty bulletproof and fixable.... Likewise a defender is likely the easiest vehicle in the world to find bits for...... The latter I hate but for longevity it's a win.

Fuel wise we will be able to find diesel well into the future..... If only for historic use..... I intend to run diesel until hydrogen is cheap and reliable.

A pair of ramps unless fixed aren't part of a trailer....

Mine has had a 20,000 mile engine put in it out of a ex quarry pickup..... She will do me for a few years
Mate had one years back that was ex quarry was fairly clean and tidy considering but a bit gutless. Got it up in the air and all the quarry dust out the chassis and off the top of the tank and gearbox etc went like a rocket 🤣
