turn it on in the 'drema and you can't do anything 'til you've configured it -- FOW / in line / cross carriage / jacks down / etc. ...... and it screams at you 'til you do

Handy I had that CAT 308 on hire the last few weeks wasnt it........ The JCB electric should drive like my 18z too. But I'm screwed anyway - cant dig a straight trench to save my life, although might be easier in a machine without a kingpost? Any tips?
And what the hell is a Z dig challenge?

I think you dig as straight as you can and that should be ok for the Z trench
And just shut your eyes for the Z trench

There's definitely a tiltrotator challenge, I don't know much about it, but the Irish one was interesting.

Straight trenches are a piece of piss bit harder if you have to go from point a to point b though
