Are any of you clued up on an auto box fitted to a daf 10t. It's a 2004 and is the old stick type selector not the newer twist button....any way my question is are they a good box?

They won't be a daf gearbox.
I think daf use zf gearboxes.
A mate on heavy recovery says despite all the snobbery he sees less dafs than anything else.

Ive got a zf in my 18t daf. I just wasn't sure on the auto side of things. I've driven the newer auto dafs but not the older ones if there's any difference between them that is

At that age and weight it could be a `proper` automatic rather than a automated manual.

I'm told by the owner its the same as fitted to Leyland buses.

It will most likely have a cooling pack for it at the back of the cab then.
There is another contractor at the LA with one, I think he had a few sensor/wiring issues with the the box, he had to get Allison (I think it was them) out to `plug` it in to diagnose.
The LA have a few Daf LF`s with than box in, i`ve not heard of problems. but they are not overly liked by the drivers (on hills mainly).

Yes it has a cooling pack and I did think Allison gearbox myself based on what I'd seen.

I thought the daf dust carts had hydrostatic transmissions rather than automatic.
If it is the hydrostatic ones then yes I have heard some truly horrific stories of those.

Well on test all is well. It is an allison gearbox.
Research hasn't come up with much info on the gearbox so I'll leave my brain to sleep on the outcome if we go for it or not.

I have a 13ton daf with 5 speed Allison transmission, its a nice little lorry. Acceleration is pretty rapid on the flat, but it is a bit gutless on the hills. Probably a bit heavier on fuel than a manual, but not that bad.

Well looks like a deal is done on it. Was one of the tidier trucks I've seen and with it been 10t over the usual 7.5t offerings should fit in to my plans nicely.
So in a few weeks I'll have a tidy sprinter tipper for sale and a 3.0l iveco dropsider.

It's an 06, last of the gen3 shape, it's done around 81k, bloody good truck. It's as good to drive as my 2020 iveco.
