8 tonners ive used this year

Takeuchi 290- strong machine, nice to grade with. Found geometry of track pedals awful but otherwise liked it.

Kubota kx080-4, pretty impressive lift capacity, didn’t like grading with it compared to the Tak. DPF seemed to keep doing cycles too- sounded like a washing machine.

older Case Cx75r (I think) probably my favourite out of the 3, this one had a fixed boom and I liked it the better for it.

Steel tracks is a must unless your doing road work. Any machine I will ever own over 2.5t will have steel tracks for my kind of work which sounds similar to you- farms, rural, steep etc.

Hold your horses guys, I've got a JCB 85z and Cat 308 up against each other this week. And today the JCB lost a lower track roller so is awaiting the fitter. 2 days into the demo.... But when it was working, its a lovely machine to drive. However against the CAT its got a lot to live up to so far...

However the JCB is far above where the Kubota is for me. There are much better machines in this class out there. The Kubota is noddy, noisy in the cab, not particularly comfortable to drive or spend a shift and not as powerful as others Ive driven. They make better machines than the KX080 and thats reflected in the amount of revisions they have made to it. Think we are on the -4alpha2 now!

That CAT looks the next weight class up from the JCB in that pic, is there that much of a difference?

That’s the one thing you can’t get round with Jakies, random bits fall off unexpectedly. Mind you, you still had four left so can’t really see what the problem is. I had similar thoughts about the KX080 I had a couple of days on. I was grading out an acre and a half ménage area, the sort of job I don’t generally struggle too much with, but it wasn’t the easiest tool for the job.

I’m glad it’s not just me was on one last week and it made me feel like I wish I’d stayed in bed 🤣

.... its not like you cant grade with my kub 8t as the levers are lovely and smooth its the fact it just nods a bit making fine grading more of an art 🙂 requires more skill 😜

I have a Kobelco sk75 with mono boom. Quite happy with it. Main criticism is blade is very close to the cab and mine is metal tracks with rubber blocks which seem to be hard to turn if you don’t lift the tracks. Try JR Leach machinery. I think he might have a 2017 in stock

I just found the flow share wasn’t very nice. It was back in the spring so can’t quite remember exact problem- but seemed to remember the boom up ram was erratic compared to pulling dipper in. I’m sure you get used to it but was a world apart from the TB290.

Yes flow share is rubbish - tracking seems to rob boom ram of too much oil in comparison to the rest - and say if your nudging along and working then when you come off the tracks you get the oil back with a bang.
I mean like anything after a while you adapt and work in a way that stops it being as annoying which I guess is why owners think its less of an issue.

Thanks. I wondered why the blade is so close to the tracks. Do you find it quite stable?

Certainly looks the part with those tracks😍 ill have a look
If your work doesn’t need an offset boom I’d say the fixed boom is the way to go for farm/Rural work. Can be limiting sometimes but much better visibility/stability and less wear points.

the one time I really miss a proper offset is ditching. I like to run as close as I can to the ditch with the boom offset so you can get a good view of the near side of the ditch- not essential but nice to have.

Is the Case cx75 and the kobekco sk75 the same digger? I thought newholland had kobelco and case and newholland are the same (CNH) they look similar?

That case at gleneden has gone, I tried to buy it. The case is a rebadged sumitomo and the kobelco is their own machine.
If your after one with the boom at the side of the cab (which I much prefer for my work and have bought) you’ve basically got case, cat, hitachi or kobelco and to be honest the only difference would be down to your preference, they’re all top machines.
Personally I think the kobelco is just about the best, but that said I haven’t been on the latest cat which looks bang on.
