Trouble is not just finding a good op. It's then finding one who wants to be flat out busy all day cos a good man on a backhoe will be kept f'in busy and not many out there who wanna graft
The Best backhoe operator is one that can successfully survive a bypass project start to finish armed only with a 2' digging bucket and a pile of pea shingle in the front bucket :ROFLMAO: It's achievable BTW

The death of the backhoe is entirely due to lack of ability.... both from labour and operator.

A good man on a 3cx will excel and outpace a 13t machine on general duties around a site switching from pallets, bulk loading and trenching...... Trouble is you need a good man..... and most are crap. One of Facebooks top operators managed to pitch a set of buckets over a fence and onto a OAP..... this to me should result in instant dismissal from the craft yet he's still going.
Who dat?….

Bloody hell he should have gotten more than that!
Horrible/terrible/incredibly sad. Sounds like a significant let-off - I guess there was more to it than the article suggests?
I’ve never heard of the fella in question - is he famous on Twatter?

Every time I see a backhoe I think ‘that could be a handy tool!’

Then it rains.
First time I hired one to clear a site it started drizzling and rutting up the ground. Op says to me if it carries on like this were going to have to call it a day. Lol. Summer machines only on unmade ground.

I reckon it's prob gone up a bit now that was couple year ago. I think it was 250 for 8 hr day inc travel with 50 extra for them bringing the breaker. Minimum 8hr hire. The machine was pretty much brand new they run a few of them so it must pay. Lot of council and highways work
That’s pretty much what I used to charge when I ran mine, sold the last one 5 years ago. I did alright out of it. Some days I’d pull in 4 jobs 😉

Must be more to that than meets the eye? 2.5k...presume the poor old oap was in the wrong spot or something. Horrible . Sure our HSE bloke reckoned it's unlimited fine for death these days on your site.
Sounds to me like he'd just hung the 4-in-1 with gripped buckets out over the safety fence to make room on site. With entirely predictable consequences. What a useless waste of oxygen.
