Be careful, any sized hole in a plate will increase the stress levels dramatically to the point where it will crack and fall apart. Mild steel is much more forgiving than any sort of high tensile steel.

If interested I could try to find the section in the engineering book where I read this.

I can’t have a thumb as you cannot weld to the dipper on the new Takeuchi 216 it’s a real shame as I had one on my 016 and it was great

I can think of places i'd be advising takeuchi to stick there 216 if that is the case.....

Is it a marketing ploy to try and make you pay an over inflated price for a factory fitted item ??

Would think it's either that, or some wanker of a salesman has far too much trust in peoples brand loyalty.

Had a conversation R.E both Takeuchi and Hitachi, and a bit of Kubota.... All three are so confident you will buy there product that there doesn't seem a massive drive to sell

Another British manufacturer however is on the warpath, and more than happy to offer not only factory visit, goodies etc. But a common sense attitude to Warranties etc. and a bloody good deal at that o_O

Was the same when I wanted a demo of a tb 216. I bought Hyundai on the strength of the decent demonstration I was offered. Glad I did as having hired a tb216 recently it’s a piece of s**t in comparison..

Nothing on the old tb016 wish I’d never got rid of mine and just bought the 3 ton machine there and then , hindsight is wonderful though

I know where there is HYUNDAI 17Z-9A for sale and seems like good value - dont suppose it would have the resale of some other brands like Kubota - but would be interesting to have it side by side with a Kubota U17-3 and see how it compared - you never really seem them round me down here and I dont know if they are getting a following in the u.k ?

It's even the same dealership t I have to deal with I reckon. There are good and bad, Saltash has a few great fitters, Sam on the Hire desk is a star, as is Lauren in sales who sorted out our purchase of a ex fleet 175 within 3 days (finance and all). Les is good on the whole.

But alas I don't feel the 2 generation are worth the steam of my piss in comparison to the 1's. We are currently overhauling our 015 as the 216 doesn't float my boat and a 016 has too longer undercarriage to get in some places we need to go.

The fact of No demo doesn't surprise me :/ I'm also weighing up atm whether the joy I will get from returning the 2nd Nippon starter motor within 12 months is worth the hassle and cost of reglazing there parts department window.... It's obliterated what was a serviceable flywheel and I know the excuse will be "it must of had a tooth missing"..... have heard of several people that they have a common fault with the retaining bolts failing and allowing the whole assembly to get stuck in the ring gear.

It's a shame, I like some of the people at said branch and I really want to continue to use them.... but they seem to skirt along the boundaries of pissing me off consistently. I am staring at a bill now that has two prices on it in the same horizontal line with £30 difference between the two.... I don't really care enough to argue but if the boot was on the other foot they would be sending snotty letters as they have done before

Fortunately this year coming we will be doing far less cross hires. I also will without a doubt be sourcing a starter motor and possibly a ring gear from elsewhere :cautious: Rightly or wrongly.

TBH when you look at the backup Doobin got with his Hyundai.... It makes you question the backup around and what they stand by on a "premium" product.

Moan, Moan, Moan Moan.

you from Mid Devon/Okehampton way? I semi recognise the digger.

Mine is a hunklinger. I can pick up something 1" or 4 to 5 foot. Plus rotates also put different jaws in it to pick different things up, like rocks, logs etc.
