Bomag/HATZ roller issue

Just bought a Bomag single drum roller with the HATZ 1B20 engine. Somethings not right though. It takes a bit of turning over to get it started (although restarting it is ok) but slight misfires, also it’s ok when it’s just ticking over and travelling but once I engage the vibrator, after a short while the engine become lumpy and Smokey and bucks/surges and eventually bogs down and cuts out with it smelling very hot. I’m suspecting faulty injector but wondered if anyone has any other ideas/remedies?
Cheers all

bearing seizing up on the vibrate and bogging the motor ?

Yes sorry I didn’t explain properly. It does overheat when just in fast travel mode- but does so far quicker when in vibrate- so basically the more load on the engine the quicker it starts to play up- also it cranks over for an age before firing up/ whitish smoke coming out of the exhaust when it’s cranking.

when'd you last change the fuel filter ? running lean/fuel starvation ?

Yep start with basics. If you don't know already filter is on the end of the string when you pull fuel cap off.

Interesting you say that. I think it’s all been a bit cobbled together- there is a tiny inline fuel filter in the line coming from tank- I think the one inside the tank has been done away with at some point. I didn’t think it would be this though as if I crack the fuel line off at the injector end it come through pretty readily.

I think that's how they came tbh
Every one I've seen has had an inline filter
They also all take an age to start and are very smokey on start up

It’s what I do!
It does sound a bit fuel related, but I agree also with Druid, it could a drag down on the vib shaft bearings, but if it does it when in high travel then it could definitely be fuel issues.

Mine has filter in tank same as wacker plate with hatz engine as well. Inline filter suggests either fuel issues at some point in past and either couldn't or wouldn't wait for proper filter or didn't even know its there.

The history (apparently) is the chap bought it as a poor runner and he suspected injector- so swapped with one of another Bomag. He sold it to me on the understanding that it was fine now but clearly it isn’t. I found this out 20 mins into yesterday’s job after travelling it 500meters down a path where it concked out in this convenient spot! Main cycle network 😂

If a fuel line was slightly leaking where it goes onto the injector could that be a cause do you think- because it does- very minor though- but wondered if it was sucking air in perhaps?

It's worth knowing the fuel system is spot on filters wise for a set off before starting to take stuff to bits, you might get lucky. Contrary to what @Smiffy says mine starts instantly and barely any smoke (I've actually pulled it out and had jump leads on tonight for a job tomorrow will be first time going this year started bang on).
