He said it's the second time it's happened in the same place. Don't really talk that often. As far as I know machine was new around 6 years ago and it snapped about three years ago where a new replacement was bought at best part of 1k the machine sat for a long time ( was goig to be two separate gangs but never happened so machine sat) as he had a 1.5t Kubota till it was stolen. So this machine was taken out for use again and snapped while pulling through some grass.
It does have a small breaker on at times.
His takeuchi dealer isn't interested in the slightest and will only sell a new dipper. Seems fair enough due to 3 years but not much use and the same problem again wouldn't hurt them to look at it or offer a discount on a second replacement

It’s tempting to buy one at that money just to see if I could get it to fit. Looking at it next to a pic of my TB216 it all looks pretty similar but I suppose it could be wider dipper width or something which would through a spanner in the works

It's a weird one the fact it's happened twice makes you think they must be made of cheese. But the number of 216s the utilities boys run (and f me some of them are rough) you'd think there would be that many fail taki would have gone back to fabricated dipper. I'm fairly sure 216 is only machine with cast dipper.

find that very hard to credit TBH...... that is some break in the original pix .. obvious signs of having been cracked some time on the wrong face to break whilst pulling and no visual evidence of any pre-existing damage on the other three sides of the 'box' ..... more likely to have broken pushing .... but .... this is a weird material .... on a cold day a good whack with a hammer might just as easily cause that

It's not the wrong side for the break to start from though, bucket ram will put far more stress on that side than pulling dipper in. It's just a puzzle as to what causes the first crack/weaknessfind that very hard to credit TBH...... that is some break in the original pix .. obvious signs of having been cracked some time on the wrong face to break whilst pulling and no visual evidence of any pre-existing damage on the other three sides of the 'box' ..... more likely to have broken pushing .... but .... this is a weird material .... on a cold day a good whack with a hammer might just as easily cause that

That's what you do when it's hard digging though or stoney ground the bucket ram is the one that does the work.

I was looking mine today- I wondered if he got a bit of concrete or something caught between the tipping links and the dipper when he crowded the bucket, the casting is pretty thin there really and because there is a hole too I don’t think the cast would take too kindly too that.
I’ve given mine some s**t digging out boulders etc, keeping the bucket on the floor and levering them out etc so they don’t snap for a pastime.
