Good evening all.
After a long time in the motor trade I decided a change was needed and have always had an interest in plant so decided to finally pursue it. Managed to land a job that were willing to train me and have been operating a 360 excavator for about a year now, mostly clearing ditches and weed cutting. I have recently been asked to start doing some more varied work which I am all for, though as I am new to operating I’m not as experienced in some techniques as I would like. Is there anyone that would be willing to give me a few pointers to help me on my way??

I know it sounds sad but watch YouTube Instagram and tiktok videos, as well as other operators.
It won't teach you how to drive a machine but you can pick up little tricks to make your life easier or work neater.

Thanks for the replies, I think my main issue is believing in the process, to use the well known phrase ‘you’ve got to break a few eggs to make an omelette’, I’m often a bit unsure about breaking the eggs! I hope the more I do the more my confidence will grow and I’ll just get stuck in. They’ve been happy with my work so far so I must be doing something right. I have been watching a few bits on youtube, but my main question for the moment is, when grading, I was taught to lay the bucket flat and use the bottom of the bucket to level and compact the aggregate with a little pressure from the arm as you work but no one I have seen seems to do it this way! Is this a known technique, something that should be used in different circumstances, or just avoided completely? I’ve now started following the trend and using the bucket to grade and compact by tracking.

Just don't get them all over the hob.

Bucket use depends on circumstance... trimming stone I run with the grader on edge so your using it more as a blade. If I was sealing a topsoil heap up i'd be using the arse of the bucket to smear it about.

All horses for courses, where in the country are you?

Welcome, the most important thing is attitude be early pay attention and do as your told by the people on the ground, once you've done a bit you want to try and be one step ahead of what they want. Finished digging drainage and there laying pipes? Go get some gravel ready in the bucket for setting the pipes.
