JCB Telehandler Advice

Hi guys, I'm looking at a used 533-105 2010 (~5000hrs). What are the main points to look out for?

I have been looking for a sensibly priced tele for a while now, 10-14m boom - either Manitou or JCB. Also if you have any other general advice for used teles (Manitou/JCB) it would be very much appreciated. Thanks to all those who comment.

I had a 1030s from new in 2004 until sold it last year. Shorter body than the JCB and personally I find the JCB quite bulky on the occasions I have to drive one. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be many of the 1030s about.

I have looked at a few Manitous, MT1130 and 1330. The mouse controls seem to be really user friendly. I have heard that the newer stuff can suffer a bit with temperamental sensors and electronics.

Mouse style joystick is probably a better description. Opposed to the construction spec JCB double lever.

There's nowt wrong with double stick, imho it's a lot better for delicate stuff than switches.

Heard that because its straight onto the valve block you get much better feel, plus less electronics to go wrong

Double stick is great for construction spec machines where you are placing things with control. I'd have RSI by the end of a week's bale cart though, so that's where a joystick wins for me. Repetitive cycles, flat out. All agri machines seem to be joystick these days.

I have done a lot of bale cart on a 3 stick 525-55 special
With a bale grab as opposed to a spike you become an octopus using the three levers bit it isn't to bad once you are use to it
The worst part is the brakes that require you to stand on them all day
Many times I've barely been able to stand after a day on one

Rsi is a real occupational hazard, ask any old timber trailer driver!

Oh yeah I know but I've never found the jcbs bad tbh. Not in comparison to the manitou they can be so stiff but the jcbs I have used have all had really light levers I can easily operate with a single finger.

Being that he mentioned looking for a 10-14m telehandler in assuming he looking at construction machines. If you want one for ag work then deffo look at ag spec. Two sticks fine for bucket and fork work but if you're thinking of a grab or other attachments then joystick possibly be better as with jcb you'll you actually end up with 3 sticks to use.

We got a 14m cat construction machine, on a farm, construction spec isn't the best for loading spreaders and stuff, the boom lockout safety features are especially annoying.
The controls are a joystick with the crowd on a thumb scoller, and the grab on another thumb scroller. Hated the scollers when we first got it, found I couldn't be delecate with them at all. Now I'd pick the telehandler every single time for delecate lifting over the tractor loader. I don't have any issues at all with an electric joystick or thumb scollers, actually love the thumb scrollers.

I always thought of those Manitou joysticks as more of a potato? Horrid things, dont know why you guys like them so much.

The wacker joystick is by far the nicest of all of them aux and boom on thumb rollers that are really precise and you can lock the aux on for a sweeper ect and the joystick is really precise.

Abosolutly no use to the op though as I don't think they go that big

Yes, it's for construction, maybe the occasional use of a bucket or tipping skip but nothing repetitive like farm work.
