You’re not the first to say the drill and saw are good. A friend was telling me the other month. Most his gear is Makita but wanted to try the stuff and he was extremely pleasantly surprised, so much so he was planning to buy more.

the little battery drill was a bit of a 'tester' ..... been superb .... charger has its moments, but seems to have its head together currently ... would buy more of their gear with out hesitation

If there's one thing I've learnt with new utilities connections is the first job the lads do when they arrive is look for a reason they can't do the job. For that reason I'd be trying to follow their spec. However gas seem the best of the lot I think cadent have incentivised them with bonuses per job over last few years the lads seem a bit keener.

I put in 4" yellow duct on last connection which was solid. I drilled it all over with 7mm bit as it was a short length of duct I got for free saved me buying a roll. Inspector came out, showed him drill holes, told him I could dig down anywhere on it and there would be holes. He told me it was most likely lads would walk off site on connection day. After he left I dug back on both ends of the duct, fired sone 63mm perf inside the 4inch, then bsckfilled both ends. Bloody games you have to play.

So gas want the duct perfarated??
Had to seal both ends of a water duct tight to a water pipe last week as the wouldn't sign it of if water could get in the duct

Obviously not if just passing through a wall but if a long length underground gas duct has to be perforated to allow any leak to disperse into the ground rather than collect at one end. If you were to use solid duct under a floor for example you get into ventilation requirements

id ring and ask them to be sure. each crew has different idea of what they want i found!

Normally plain yellow pipe in the ground no duct, one crew turned up on another build and wanted it in the black perf duct for reasons only known to them.

Put this in ready for a plot to be put on market so lane does not need to be dug up any more apart from out the end for connections where it's wider and vehicles can still pass with joint pits
Gas is in preferrated pipe water in solid and electric in solid just to pole half way along lane
All sanded taped to correct depths

Gas should preferably be unducted. Worst case perforated Duct.
Water depends on location, but yes watertight duct is'nt unreasonable. Preferably blue.

Leccy here red duct if its for enwl cable and they're own branded tape, black duct if it's private cable.

None of that matters on an existing cable but new you have to tow the line.

You would be amazed what they get away with .
They want to inspect it on private installation but as soon as they get in the carriageway all bets are off

Trust me i know what they get away with I've seen it. I think it was floods in 2009 in Cockermouth where there was a big chunk of tarmac lifted up and flipped over on a side street. The 63mm gas main pulled out as it was stuck to the underside of the road surface (only 150mm thick). I've lost count of the number of times I've put services in to site boundaries following spec for depth and been over a foot below mains.
