Flails and priority valves.

I'm going to buy a or make a flail mower for my 216. Before I do that I want to fully understand the hydraulics.

Looking at this chart all I can do is slew while cutting without the flail losing power/slowing. From my reading the best setups use a 12v priority valve that steals flow before it gets to the normal valve body. This keeps the blades spinning while doing other movements but the downside is machine functions are slower?

It may be funny but the sound of the flail powering up and down all day would drive me crazy.

Anyone have advice on these micro flails? Been watching videos of Gehendi's and femac's. Then there's always the $1000 alibaba specials?

Any advise on priority valves, flails or the meaning of life is appreciated.

I have a priority valve on the Hydrema which bleeds off any unused flow to the main valve block .... sounds like what you're after.
it can be adjusted for both pressure and flow rate, to feed the breaker/flail .... anything left then gets sent onwards to my main valve block for distribution as I see fit / whatever
from memory my flail requires 70l/m at 180 bar ..... the pumps produce 230l/m at 300bar, so plenty to go around ..... I will have to find the info. on the valve for you ..... seem to recall it being circa 500 quidsworth though, from the last time i was sussing it out ..... solenoid controlled, as you say .

To be bunt, you're wasting your time and money trying to fit a flail to a 1.5t machine. Sorry, but it's the truth.

I keep wondering about mounting a petrol engine to one, and being mindful of the angles you use it at. Chonda engines are cheap and have an oil pump from what I know. should do banks OK, hedges aren't the domain of a digger regardless.

As dobin says I’d buy a small tractor and flail or if you need one on banks steep areas etc then hire bigger machine, wasting time on a mini be quicker with a decent strimmer (weed whacker)

Interestingly though would a beaver pack run a flail have some kind on off switch and mount in on counter weight

You'd need a 30l/min or bigger one, but it has crossed my mind! Would be useful for a lot of things.

Got a flail on my kx71-3 which is a 2.8ton machine. It is useful fir me as I need to keep areas of the Xmas tree planting clear. It would never compete with a tractor and flail set up fir speed but it will get to areas the tractor won’t.

I cant remember know, but on your thread about the post knocker, did you not have a free flow return? Most flail heads would need it.
If you really wanted a flail, I would be inclined to just get one (the correct spec for your machine, or maybe a size down on the motor cc, and have a overflow valve on the head) and try if first, see how you get on.
A priority would do the job, but fitting it on the machine tidy could be a task, it must be fairly tight already?

I think slewtec among others where selling a rotary mulcher
Would be preferable on such a small machine as require a lot less power and flow and are lighter
And realistically a flail on such a small machine isn't going to achieve much more than a brush hog would

Not much room under the foot area but plenty under the seat/behind battery area.

Don't want to do that but these brackets from a the hybrid plug in electric version could probably be rigged up to work as a mount.

Part of me wonders when battery electrics will get to the point that I can have a battery mower head out there and not even worry about hydraulics and stressing/heating the machine up....
