Case cx 130 overcooling

My cx130 with a Isuzu 4BG1T engine is overcooling. Ive got barely no heat at the heater .
The temp only goes up 2 bars and the computer is only giving max temp of 70 degrees .
i assumed the thermostat so I changed it but it is still the same .
when I look in the top off the rad when it’s warm I can see the coolant moving about in there . Would it so that even if the stat was closed ?
Any help much appreciated I’m baffled as well as cold 🥶

cheers

vin

Maybe the viscus fan has failed so is driving all the time?
The new thermostat is faulty, test the old one in a pan of water on the stove,
Try a sheet of cardboard up against the rad to see if it runs warmer.

I think the fan is on a permanent pulley so it shouldn’t be that . I will try the old stat in the water to see.
could the water pump create an over cooling issue if it was going wrong or would it cause overheating?

more likely the latter IMHDO Vin ...... it's an odd one for sure -- is the stat jammed open ?

I replaced the stat but it could be a faulty new one I suppose .
been there Vin  ...... more usually won't open - out the box, than stick open ... boil it up in a pan ... do you have a summer or winter stat? ... 'bout 10 deg.s C difference usually  ..... summer stat opens a lot sooner

I just boiled the original and it opened up ok so I’m doubting it was stuck open . It does have a hole in it though , is that intentional to let a small amount of coolant to pass

that hole should have what they call a jiggle pin in it .... like a ball with a T attached ... prevents air locking / pressure build up

This makes me think something else must be causing it to over cool but I can’t think what it can be . The computer is reading 70 degrees which isn’t hot enough to open the stat .
The engine doesn’t feel very hot too touch . Neither do the coolant pipes but the thermostat housing gets hot to touch . I can actually dip my fingers in the radiator water and it’s not too hot to handle which seems strange .

could I be looking at a different set of problems ?
How likely could it be that the temp sender is giving a false reading and the heater matrix clogged at the same time ? Should the radiator water be red hot ?

Would the missing jiggle pin cause it to over cool?

Old and new stat stamped 82 degrees

What temp does you stat open up at? Would one that opens at a higher temp help?

won't help ..... that one in your hand looks to be a winter stat (82C) ... summer one is usually circa 72C ..... what temperature did it open at in the pan ?
shouldn't begin to open below the marked 82C and should be fully open at 90C
also you do live in the ferkin' cold end of the country  try blanking off 1/3rd of the rad and see if it warms up at all ...... old series LRs used to need a blind on the grilles in winter and me disco very often used to have half the rad blanked off when it was very cold ... big rad on them

Maybe , can they be bought aftermarket? By size ?
82-84C is about the limit guys .... you need to establish accurately what temp the thing opens at.... if the spring's gone weak it could be opening way too soon, but as your new one doesn't improve matters, I'd be blanking off some of the rad and just keeping an eye on the temp gauge
it has been seriously kin cool of late Vin

I didn’t have a temp gauge on it but I’d say not long before it boiled ! Would the heater work at 70 degrees ? It was about 8 degrees on site today I’d of thought the engine would of got up to heat at that .

for sure

if your coolant is circulating in the top of the rad, then the stat is opening .... the stat is a diverter -- 'til it opens the water merely circulates in the engine block , once the water in the block reaches a given temp., (82C in this case), the stat opens and allows the water to flow out into the rad for cooling, if the water drops below that temp, after/during cooling the stat closes back down and the water remains circulating in the block until the stat opens again

assume you're talking the pan of water ??

you really do need to get a thermometer in it to check opening temperature accurately .... if it's opening early it'll never warm up in winter ...... but as said the new one was no better ??:unsure:

what's the seat like in the thermostat housing ... not able to allow any bypass flow??? / corroded away anywhere?? / clamping the thermostat in place firmly ??
