It's all nonsense though in the real world. It's OK saying an 8 tonner can lift 3 ton if it's all tucked up against the blade but what can it do with it. In the real world you need to be able to pick something up and turn round with it or stretch out and place it somewhere.

Yeah but picking up more close in directly relates to picking up more at reach
But seeing as diggers don't really have any numbers on them to tell how far away you are lifting like a telehandler would then it's easier just to compare what it will lift right in close

Having lifted and placed identical bundles of steel with the kubota and hitachi I know
Which one handled them better but it's not easy to give a percentage of how much better

I'm sure if you tried you might be able to squeeze a bit more weight out the front of that

I've never used a tilty but seeing as that machine has one and a va boom wouldn't it have been better to have a non kingpost machine for stability

I do like the traditional mounted boom on my Kobelco as I have never been a fan of king posts on 6ton plus. Will be happy when the Tilty is on the end of it!!

Don't forget a lot of it will be down to individual ram relief valves too.

if we were talking hydraulic capacity Doob ...... think this is more about stability and not putting the m/c on its toes

No they arent perfect by a long way but a well respected 8t - not that long ago they were considered among top in class so cant have suddenly become terrible ..... hes been a knob

The only real negative for a kingpost is extra wearing parts. Arm length is the only thing which is gonna drastically alter stabilty or weight on the bum wherever arm is mounted its still the same effect.
Tilty can negate the need for kingpost but not having a tilty kingpost is a must for me for getting into corners etc. In any case no centre mount option on taki.

and the capacity to fall on the floor if given too much grief ... seen a few snapped off .... once you start in the serious capacity to lift range, the ability to abuse the post becomes that much greater

Tbf were talking 8 tonner not a crane but comes down to the same old thing, the seat filler.
I think doosan/bobcat are a common one for coming to bits. Will likely be related to the grease gun

They still add a fair chunk of weight out forwards though and also mean that lifting operations can be further forward and have and be awkward especially if fitted with extra long dipper as you have to go so far out to get the lift height by comparison
Especially as center mount can pull there boom back further
Obviously your va will go part way towards negating this

Its not the weight forwards as that can be added onto the counterweight to balance it out, but as you say when lifting to get height you have to at some point have the load a fair way away. Thats one of the reasons i went for the tab as i can actually keep the weight v close in (almost as near as you would want it to the cab tbh)

That's not the biggest of them but they were to carry round the other side of the house and place to retain a banking. With mono boom version I'd have had to have them higher up to get close in for traveling with, not ideal if they roll off the bucket.

Its not the weight forwards as that can be added onto the counterweight to balance it out, but as you say when lifting to get height you have to at some point have the load a fair way away.
