Learn about material screeners, what do you want to know?

Hey guys, not trying to advertise, just looking for some thoughts on the below.

The company I've just started working for is running a virtual event demo-ing a portable screener. We'll be streaming on Youtube and it's completely free to view/attend, live on the 4th of February.

I haven't really worked in this industry and don't know much about these machines so, If you're interested in this sort of thing, what would you want to learn?

We'll be showing off how easy the machine is to set up from loading off the back of a truck, and the overall operation of the machine.
You'll also have the opportunity to ask the manufacturer and our customer any questions you might have about the machine in a live AMA.

Cheers for the insight! Interesting that you mention warranty/backup? What's the standard expectation here? Again pretty new to all this stuff so forgive the ignorance!

Tell me more about your machine.

As far as I know, the major selling point of this thing is that it's fairly high capacity while still being able to be loaded on to and transported on the back of a lorry. Also small enough that it doesn't need permits I believe, although that may be more or less necessary depending on what it's needed for, manufacturer says it's the largest 'containerisable' scalper which I assume means it fits in a container? Has just over a 2.3m transport width anyway which is pretty cool. Material processing is soil, sand & gravel, coal, overburden or demolition materials.

What sort of stuff do you work on? Is the transportability something that is interesting?

OK Ben, the best place to start with this forum is to read everything in the archives first. As an ex-supplier I can say with some certainty that it will help you to not make a prat of yourself and it will give you an insight into some of the 'in-jokes' (of which the above is a current example) that a number of our more vocal and better known members will swap regularly. You will not get everything first time round but it will begin to sink in.

The other bit of advice is more obvious and applies to all salesmen (speaking as one who has practised these dark arts...). The good lord gave us one mouth and two ears for a reason. Use them in that proportion and you won't go far wrong. Introducing yourself (good move BTW) and asking 'tell me all about plant' is too big a question. Your initial question was OK, but I would have done a bit more silent research first.

Anyone buying this machine will be doing so to make money out of it so they would want to know that if it packs up you as the supplier will have a fitter there within X number or hours/days, availability of parts. That would probably be one of the biggest selling factors for me on something high value like that as well as service intervals, fuel consumption, country of manufacture etc

have you had the chance to watch one being operated close up? It will give you the best insight into what’s involved and the person running it will probably have experience of other machines so can give you pointers on how they stack up against competitors

I presume you work for powerscreen? Would the demonstration be of a portable tracked scalping (Box) type screen.

Robert/Randla has nailed it. Most of us are lovely people on here, most of us also know our trades..... from Highwaymen (Doobin) to people that run fleets of big gear, and even retired old bastards (Druid) none of us are fools.... we also aren't experts at everything. Treat us to pictures, information, and humor and you never know you might sell something.

Regarding your new role... tbh ask all the questions you want... remember that the end user of a small box/scalping screen is going to be a completely different user to say a quarry that wants a large tracked plant and crusher. All end users want is a reliable product with good backup at a price comparable to the manufacturers competitors.

Btw on a unrelated note @Regy53 has the details of a Hungarian bloke that likes BMW's who needs a small screener to sort topsoil from bricks and tow behind his Nissan Navara.
