So, if we sell plant or lorry's to a Eu country that was not manufactured in the UK 10% import duty for the EU... If it was manufactured in the EU but used in the UK 10% import duty...

This is the news I am hearing and reading at the moment...

This will directly hurt pockets of anybody with plant

Not really a issue unless your business relys on buying bulk deals of discounted plant, running it into the ground for a couple years and then throwing it into euros.... Might actually be a good thing for the little guy.

as said elsewhere last night, the home market should see the benefit of s/h plant coming back down to a more realistic value ..... Brightwell's auctions'll be a lot quieter for sure .... and the background 'buzz' on the day will be more English than Polish/Slavic
for the likes of Ross, etc. it's gonna be tough times i'd guess :(

Thing is no one really knows
As a drop in s/h prices could mean more people in uk buy second hand so higher turn over of s/h machines albeit at a lower price
So it will have to shift to quantity over quality

Might be people changing more often when replacing s/h for s/h so machines changing hand more often

Or it could go the other way and people will keep the machines for a million hours and there simply won't be a s/h market
Or we will plunge into the third world diggers will cease to exist and we will all be discussing the latest and greatest in tilting rotating shovels

From our perspective I don’t think it will affect us to much it’s just who’s going to pay for it.... does it go ontop ofthe sales price or does it come of the sales price ......

Luckily I don’t have a great deal of stock but the impact could be people hanging on again... huge supply issues from new, we are indeed going to look at understanding what we can do other than used plant ( as well as) the impact is going to be interesting. The first auction of the year is Brightwells next week. Let’s see. They are quoting they are export ready but I don’t think people understand it all yet as a lot of my export regulars and friends have been asking me what they should do. See exporting a machine to Poland it needs to customs clear here which we do but it also needs to customs clear the first country it hits which is likely France. So anything for Europe has to customs clear France first. It’s not that easy to customs clear which is why it’s all in the news at the moment

it wont be us paying for it, its just weather it comes from the residual or the price goes up

either way its the same in return so 10% on imports unless manufactured in the EU... Probably a better deal there

The more I think about this the better I think it'll be it shouldn't hurt most of us too much but it might slow down some of the big fleets that hire out cheap and sell on 3yr old kit for maximum residuals.

It will likely hurt the whole industry. could see rentals go up, pay down etc. Has to come from somewhere

If it drives the rates up it will be a positive for the little guy. No disrespect Ross I know that a lot of your gear comes from the big players... but the fat cat's have had it too easy putting gear out for squat and relying on depreciation/bulk purchase price and easy export.... I think it'll be positive.

90% of my kit comes from end users and small business

Somewhere 10% needs to be found.

I get it may change what the big boys do but it may also cause prices to fall 10% across used plate in the UK, with increased purchase costs. Everybody will want price hikes and the little customers may not pay it? of course there has to be a balance but in the immediate future working out how this will settle will be interesting. Hopefully its cheaper kit all round

Perhaps it will settle 5% all round.

I would imagine if I asked you all to just wipe 10% of your asset register you wouldn't be overally happy. Thats all i am getting at
