Got to be honest that does look smart. Only thing that worries me is how well it stand up. Did you get an engineer design or is it a client suck it and see?
engineered design, steels are 1400mm into the shale and 1m3 on each one, panels are 150mm ones was for national trust so no messing around

That's my thoughts too. The foundation spec for a hollow block retaining wall can get ott without being silly high and thats full length of the wall.
I recently quoted a local guy who hadn't had engineers drawing only architects for full H block with rebar, drainage etc was 2.2 high at front of his house down to road to make parking so all his house pushing on it etc, anyway he's gone with builder who's doing block laid flat single skin no weep holes and on a little strip footing as he was few grand cheaper

Got any more information/pictures on this. Are they concrete. How heavy are they. I've got a grab for the digger so would be handy

Imho without knowing more about height length etc its difficult to suggest anything useful. All i know is gabions are very labour intensive to do properly. It isn't just the face you need to spend time on the only way to keep them straight and tidy is to hand pack them.

@Antony Holmes have you got any more information on those blocks, ie name/supplier?

We are looking for a retaining wall in our garden and quite like the look of those blocks. Initially had planned to use hollow concrete blocks and fill them with concrete once the wall is up.

And what sort of foundation are they on? We plan to have a hedge in front of the wall so can’t really have a massive toe as on the drawing in Giles’s post.

Lego blocks soon add up in cost mind, that's without handling if you haven't got the machinery yourself
