Well confused don't believe the media,plenty out today enjoying weather,no body's littering the street,well no more than usual,more fear mongering,best stay under the covers,sucking thumb,any one scared of a 99+% survivability disease for most people
More concern should be french using covid to block accompanied UK freight for next 48 hrs at least,punishment for Brexit

Thing is everyone round here isn't scared of the virus they are scared of the absolute twats who will do you in for enjoying yourself
I don't know if anyone else is on local community pages but reading some of the posts on them I really think society has bigger problems than covid and that is the complete lack of IQ of the general population and a complete inability to think for them selves
I really cannot summon the words for the contempt I have for some of these people who are acting like it's a zombie apocalypse
I am fully aware we need to be sensible but the are people threatening to drop people in it and wishing for prison sentences if they use the shop at the opposite end of town as the their 2/4 border runs through the town
They genuinely think people should not only go without family on Christmas day but shouldn't collect the presents and Christmas food that is already ordered to try and make the best of it

Was about to comment on the Brexit situation and see you beat me too it.
Time to walk and rely on WTO until the rest of the EU batter the French around there head with North Sea Cod!!

I keep an eye on one but yes it's utter b*LL*cks. Unreal wonder how this will end..how will they decide the world is safe again? One way of looking at it is, the streets are safer with them off them.

Up here in moray we are in tier 1 of 5, the lowest in the land. No great rising of COVID cases yet Nicola has us going into tier 4 on Boxing Day. Brilliant for the festive season with sfa to do.

We had no cases up here either, every night head of NHS up here telling everybody what they had to do etc no unnecessary travel so on, 2 weeks ago 2 positive tests from doctors they had taken in from another part of country, put them out onto wards etc, hadn't tested them of course they had caught it before they got here now loads of hospital staff of self isolating, will probably spread pretty quick too

My DiL says about half the patients in the hospital with Covid.....got it on the hospital. Not effecting the staff as they have PPE and generally don’t have underlying medical conditions.....unlike the people in the beds!!

Personally I'd rather we were over-cautious. I had my doubts about the wisdom of letting everyone meet up for xmas, and could see a January lockdown looming as a consequence.

Why do we all need to get together in big groups? Do a zoom call, meet one family to another, and call another small group. Protect your loved ones! Are we all that lazy we can't be arsed to cook?

Perhaps I am lacking of having loved ones that need protecting!! I get it for those that have underlying medical issues that put them at high risk. But as it stands this is not a general population killer. The harm and damage this will do long term will cause more deaths than these restrictions will prevent. If you need to take care do so. But for 99.7% of the population they need to get on, go to work, spend money and be happy!! The magic money tree will come to an end. How will that protect the NHS and save life’s when we have completely scared the masses to stay at home on furlough!!

You're not the only one - I have precious little family, and we decided a month or two ago to knock Xmas on the head this year. My mum lives up the road in a Tier 2 (We are tier 3) and will just be coming for dinner, nap in front of the telly, sherry, and then be bussed back home by yours truly. My sister's family (BIL+2 under 10 Nephews) are in Kingston upon Thames and are just going to be doing their own thing. We will do a Video call to them on Xmas day to see the little faces light up when they open their presents, and their parents faces fall when they see what we (or granny - she has form for this also, as she bought the youngest a hammer and screwdriver set last year - he's only 5, and she even included some nails and a few bits of wood) have got them.

The new variant is very quick to spread, and we need to nip that in the bud though. Get the vaccine program going properly and cover off the groups that represent 95% of the people most at risk. Then the rest of us can be dosed as required.

New variant? Been around since September,funny how it's started in Kent after the government's been happy to allow in invited guests to land and stay on South coast all year?

I'm not sure how different it really is - Melb and Sys are both over 5 million and the flights between them made the busiest air corridor anywhere in the world for a long time (it dropped to second before this sh!t).

@Gecko just heard on radio 4 that we have over 10 thousand lorries arrive into Dover port each day. Presumably with ten thousand drivers. I know you meant no offense earlier but this is an example of the different dynamics between the countries. That is just one port. I send a bloody card to my mum in oz and their postage system take 4 weeks their end to deliver it!

Yep - I was trying to show how mobile people are here. That could/would result in very rapid virus spread if it was unchecked.

Vic was the worst in the country, but has now clocked 52 days without community transmission,
NSW is on the edge of loosing control, so the borders are closing tonight. I was meant to spend the day in syd. but cancelled my flight yesterday so I didn't get stuck there.

At least someone has his eye on the ball. Last line of the minutes says this variant was spreading during the lockdown. . That lockdown was effective then!!
The unions now calling for schools not to return in Jan. Gobberment has all ready said 2nd schools to return with mass testing and online. The more you test the more you find. Where has flu and colds gone this year?
This must surely be Brexit ploy to see how Europe gets on when stupid border controls are in place. Perhaps our Gobberment are really playing a blinder!!
