The speed a vaccine can be developed has always been defined by the available resources dedicated to it. So if they thought malaria or denge fever were worth it, they would put resources on it.

I thought the Pfizer vaccine was a new way of making vaccines using genetic modification?
Given the amount of money we spend on overseas aid (which getting rid of maleria would be) or Gates foundation already spends on tackling maleria it would be nice if this new method could sort some of these age old problems.

If Pfizer need an indeminty from prosecution to release it and make billions there seems something wrong. Do we get it half price if we give them an indemnity? Also ethics is reason vaccines take time to test. Its unethical to gather up loads of young women trying for a baby, give them it then see how it effects fertility. Where's if after a few years willing participants start to have trouble then it is a more ethical way to discover this side effect. Likewise with compatibility with other medicines etc etc

Interesting article in the Independant about the Pfizer vaccine. I hadn't realised it did not have full approval, just emergency approval which appears to be to a much lower standard. Also everyone involved including Pfizer is being given legal indemnity against anything going wrong including side effects (not just it not working). If it has been tested as much as everyone is making out and they can develop this in a fraction of the time it would normally take because they are such heros why does it not have full approval and why are they not on the hook for any problems as would normally happen?
On a side note it would be nice to think that if it is now so quick to produce vaccines maybe they will carry on with these methods and and by the end of next year we can be wiping out maleria, denge fever etc.

My wife works in medical research. She said most vaccines are covered under this exemption but this is the first RNA vaccine ever.
It is a great breakthrough in Science but long term possible effects are unknown as it alters your DNA.
We have a history of auto immune diseases in our family so we will be avoiding this. Anyone with an auto immune will not be offered the vaccine or if they are should be running far and fast!!

My wife is not anti vaccine but has said she would not want any of our reproductive family members to take it!! Altering DNA is not something you can change back!! Jury still out on the Oxford one!!

You won't get a passport as it is not 100% effective.

I've been wondering about the efficacy quoted and what it really means (not my area of expertise).

When I got my Rabies shots, I was tested after to see if the vaccine had 'taken'. It had, so I know I'm good, but if it had failed, I'd know that too.
I assume it's the same with a Covid vaccine - a 'passport' could be issued based not on having a vaccine, but on having a positive test following.

there are three main natural controls of population ....
famine, pestilence and war ....
and none of 'em are presently controlling the population explosion, overrunning the planet's resources and capability to sustain life -- as we know it!
create a pandemic with something 99.7% survivable, but in doing so create a situation where the populous are clamoring to have a load o' tish stuck in 'em .. with unknown 'side effects' /issues going forwards ..... and plead ignorance .................... 'til it's too late .... and never have to admit to any agenda ????
let's all be realistic ......... we can not go on as we are ... something has got to give, or the place'll be like a sugar covered football - covered in ants .. and no population on the planet is voluntarily going to allow itself to be 'controlled' of their own free will ....... unless they think it's a matter of survival

It is interesting to have some actual facts for once. I just don't know what to believe on this from media and government sources. In general I'm very for science and modern medicine. I've had all the other vaccines I have been reccomended, but the harder everyone in authority tries to push this, especially through name calling rather than trying to persuade me with facts the more my gut instinct is to back off and not have it. Certainly not in the near future.

Update. Daughter has been off for a Covid test this morning as her “cold” has developed into a temperature. So in line with government and school policies we are now awaiting results. She was unable to provide the throat swab and wasn’t particularly happy with the squab up the nose.
In the event of an inconclusive test.....we are house bound for 14days!!! Better get online and order some more beer....might be a long 2 weeks!!
