Have you got the paperwork/written reason for being sent off site. Likewise what is your trade and what where you using the knife for?

No paper work was given I turned up for work in the morning and I was told by a site manager that I wasn’t allowed on site because someone had reported me for having an inappropriate tool , I’m an industrial cleaner we use window scrapers and Stanley’s to get up , paint , plaster and silicone , I thought the tool I had brought would be perfect as the Stanley blades snap easy when getting up plaster.

Are you a Employee or a self employed contractor? and are tools provided or are you expected to bring them.
No point arguing or pursuing if your a employee or if the tools you use are provided.... But i'm pretty certain I could justify the use of a knife vs a stanley in that scenario.

Can't use a Stanley or pocket knife on some jobs but nothing said about machetes.

A lot depends on what the company you are working for say about knives. I do a lot of work for Amey and they state that all "Stanley" type knives must have a self retracting blade ie. when you let go the trigger the blade dissappears. After some idiots put open knives away in their tool box and then cut themselves fishing around to find something.
All you can do is grovel and say you didn't know and it will never happen again and can you have a copy of the relevent policy.

Tell them to swivel. I insist that all my guys have a knife similar to that along with spare blades on their person at all times.
A standard Stanley knife is f****ng useless. Because it's such a faff to put a new blade in nobody f****ng bothers. So they struggle and put excess pressure on a blunt knife. And are then surprised when they slip and maul themselves.

100% agree....and yet in Sweden every tradesman walks around with a fixed blade knife on his pants...

Trouble is the rules are not about keeping people safe or doing the job efficiently they are about saying something was done to keep people safe and so avoid any liability. In reality the self retracting knives I bought are dangerous as they tend to fall apart when used hard. Fixed blades are by far the safest.

You were red carded for an inappropriate tool? If you feel this is unjustified, you will be able to obtain an explanation, as otherwise these red/ yellow card schemes are open to misuse. This raises too many questions though as to why you were sent off site in the first place.
Was this your first day on that site? Or working for that contractor? Have you even seen a list of tools that they do not allow on the site? Who reported you? How did they know what you had in your toolbox? Did the agent go straight down the red card route or did a discussion take place beforehand?
Having worked in management, I don't know why you would want to send a guy home who's come to carry out a job. Worst case, confiscate the tool until the end of the day and ask him not to bring it again. I don't see it as a red card offence unless you had offended before or had seen a list of banned tools on such a site (Hospitals, Prisons, Airports etc have such rules and items such as knives are signed into and out of site for obvious reasons)
Either way, someone there clearly doesn't like you! But think you need to give us the full lowdown on the circumstances before anyone can pass judgement.
