Tool of the week

Thought it might be interesting to post about our tools selections.. one tool once a week, can be anything from a new toy to the battered old ratchet that you couldn’t live without!

Ill start off with a new toy.. been tiling since I was a kid, gone through the usual bench saws then had a smaller version of this , but as we are laying 1200mmx600 and 900mmx900mm tiles at home i thought I’d get a upgrade capable of both (might not look it but it can take a 1200mm tile flat on the bed)

My tool of the week for this week is a spanner to hold bottom crank pulley on Deutz 1011 series for cam belt change. Yes I know it’s only a bit of flat bar with some holes drilled but I couldn’t undo the crank pulley without it.

have a similar 'bar' for undoing and pulling the flywheel off the Mountfield's Briggs an' Scrap'em ..... no chance without it and for some reason spiders love the points in there ... regular job ... evicting the lil bar stewards

Think I paid £140 couple of years ago for it bare with out batteries as I have some DeWalt kit with batteries, price is still around the same

that's pretty good for that .... but bet the batteries and charger treble that at least

They arnt as expensive as you would think but they are very and bulky
I have the compact 1/2 drive from Makita and it's awesome I find it more versatile can get on most bolts can have an adapter to take screw it's saves having an impact driver aswell
It's done everything from automotive work to erecting steel framed buildings through to putting thousands of screws in everything from plasterboard to shuttering

You put screws in plasterboard with a 1/2 impact gun? I have the big Makita impact gun, it’s a tad big to get into wheel arches Etc sometimes which is a pain.

I've had a 110V corded Makita 1/2" impact for many years ... if you can't undo a 16mm bolt with it, it'll just snap 'em off, if you want

You put screws in plasterboard with a 1/2 impact gun? I have the big Makita impact gun, it’s a tad big to get into wheel arches Etc sometimes which is a pain.

It is the same size as the impact drivers just the adapter from 1/2 to 1/4 hex adds a little bit of length
It has three power settings so it isn't to much of a problem
It was in my own house I wouldn't be buying it specifically for that task but I wasn't going to go buy a screwgun for the sake of 10 sheets of plasterboard

Already in the DeWalt eco system for 18v and 54v so if I buy any tools it tends to be just bare ones as the 18v will work off the 54v batteries

Ah different to mine.. mines a about 300mm long and 400nm Of torque.. just had images in my head of putting screws in with it

I recently got the big Makita one. It certainly mangles the M12 bolts that hold my teeth on.
If I can nominate my tool of the week it would be my new honda Izzy lawnmower. So much easier than strumming the garden.
